Bizarre vintage vending machines you never knew existed

Post by treefrog »

I know the site has turned into a vending machine site for the last few weeks, perhaps the lack of interesting amusement machine material is the cause, but could not help post this great vendor for sale in Dublin.....

The seller initially had on as a buy it now for over 1000 euros and now has a bid for almost 800 euros.... Still a rare old item, new old stock and seller claims only 200 made as they were banned in the early '70s due to obvious risks of children buying the odd tot......

We have mentioned these before. They were designed for theatre bars to speed up service during intermissions, which is the only way I can see they got round the licencing laws of the time (unless they had a time switch in them).

An interesting article in the Daily Mail from a year ago, so new pictures, some already on the net.

Automatic whisky sodas and 24-hour POTATO service! The bizarre vintage vending machines you never knew existed

One thing I remember all around my region that existed in quite odd locations were maggot vending machines. Not sure if many of these still exist, but I always felt a little sorry for the little buggers possibly stuck in these boxes for long periods. One would like to think there would be regular inspection before a fly infestation occurred. Although I use to fish a lot I never tried one.

Not the oldest coin operated booze vendor, this Gin vendor is English and from the 17th cent.

 Well at least I didn't contribute to that thread. In fact I don't recall seeing it before. Which doesn't mean I didn't... It's also worrying to find we've reached the end of the internet as far as vintage slots go.

I've always wondered where the phrase "cat's paw" came from. Now, thanks to OldTom, I know.
