Prince August casting for Wonders coin slot

Postby alan57 » Thu May 22, 2014 5:43 pm

After trying to obtain a Wonders 1D coin slot for many months without success, and with the advice of Arrgee and Jingle, I have attempted to make a casting using Prince August metal.

For a mold I used a Silicone putty, and tried both the Prince August normal casting metal and their 5 star metal. I had similar results using both metals. As you can see from the picture, the final result isn't perfect but I can live with it.

What's not perfect about it?? Looks just like the mold to me. !PUZZLED! Sand castings always come out a little or a lot wonky and need some hand finishing to clean them up. But if you look at almost any old machine you'll see each has unique imperfections. Too perfect a repro part or paint job and it just doesn't look right.

Thanks to all for all your comments. Is there anything I can use to protect the Prince August metal from scratches and tarnishing, I was thinking maybe giving it a couple of a coats of a hard wearing gloss clear varnish.
