Wood repair/reinforcement product & spring supplier
Here are two products that might be of use in restoring old machines.
The first is the West System. This is an epoxy resin based system for the building and repairing of wood and glass fibre products and is used extensively in the wooden boat building industry and for repairs to wooden structures and architecture in old / listed buildings. Mixed with a slow acting hardener it can be used to reinforce rotten timber and may be useful for repairing machine cases, especially where carved designs would be lost by replacing the rotten timber with new.
The epoxy resin can be mixed so as to soak into / through rotten timber and when it hardens it will form a resin reinforcement within the wood; very useful, perhaps, for entombing woodworm.
West Systems also supply a range of fillers that can be added to build up lost sections.
There is a lot of information and scenarios on the West Systems web site.
This link shows how the product could be used for repairs to wooden machine cases;
Tutorial for Household Repairs; Section 2, Repairing Damaged Wood; Sub section, Repairing Windows and Doors; Repairing Thresholds and Sills

The second is Entex Stock Springs, who supply a HUGE range of springs in lengths and with hooked ends. Our Allwin machines mostly use ¼” and 5/16” diameter springs for the hammer action and these are available as Tension Lengths, 2ft long, in five wire thickness.

I have no connection with either of these companies other than being a satisfied user.

Re: Two products that might be of use in restoring old machi
Marvellous stuff John.
I've always been a fan of epoxy stuff as well as springs, I love springs me.
Being a canal boater (when I'm not slottering) I was using similar stuff in the 1970s to keep my marine ply boats together.
Of course the technology involved in such epoxy resins was quite new then. Forget COSHH ...... H&S hadn't even been dreamt of at that time. I must have ingested so much of it I need never fear rotting.
Now my boat is steel there's only one such product I buy Creeping Crack Cure I don't need it, I just can't resist it. Fantastic name, always make me guffaw like a schoolboy. I must have boxes of the stuff.
