Unseizing the Seized

For a moment let's forget the usual tips .....
Apply heat
Submerge in Diesel
Turn the wrong way first
Tap smartly with a thump'ometer

I found this recently: -
"Machinist's Workshop" recently published information on various penetrating
oils. The magazine reports they tested these products for "break out
"torque" on rusted nuts and bolts. A subjective test was made of popular
penetrating oils, with the unit of merit being the torque required to
remove the nut from a "scientifically rusted" bolt.
Average torque load to loosen nut:
No Oil used ........................516 foot pounds
WD-40 ..................... ........238 foot pounds
PB Blaster .........................214 foot pounds
Liquid Wrench ......................127 foot pounds
Kano Kroil .........................106 foot pounds
ATF/Acetone mix...................... 53 foot pounds

So clearly "ATF/Acetone mix" is preferable, but what is it?
Well ATF is Automatic Transmission Fluid and Acetone is what women pour on their claws to clean off the paint they use on them.
So buy a bottle of ATF from Halfords (if you want to pay top whack).
A bottle of Nail Cleaner from Superdrug etc.

Then mix them 50/50. !!THUMBSX2!!

Wonder who eventually worked that out?

Is there a health and safety legislation barrier to stop companies from manufacturing this otherwise why don't/haven't they if it is this good in comparison to a WD40 type derivative? Maybe it doesn't spray?

Thanks for info.

I've searched for H&S implications, but can only find the issues that come with the individual ingredients (which are bad enough) and are listed on the containers.

Perhaps it doesn't store well? I guess I'll find out in time. :!?!:

Perhaps I'll list in the underutilized market my new product range

ATFA50..... sounds stronger than that weaker wd40 stuff anyway

I'm sure as others did I have googled this and as with all magic fixes there are a number of not exactly conflicting but differing opinions as to the efficiency of this option across varying circumstances & usage.

Not going to go into detail, as it's very easy to find on the net for yourselves, but an interesting read at least together with cautionary information too.

They were using Penetrene in my father's workshop since the ,'60s and I've been using it ever since starting there as a kid, and easily the best penetrating oil I've found. Quite cheap too. I just researched to see what it's made of and found it dates back to 1924! A safety data sheet states the makeup as:

Ingredients:
Petroleum Distillates - 68334-30-5 >60%
Petroleum Base Oil - 8012-95-1 <10 - 30%
TETRACHLOROETHYLENE - 127-18-4 <10%
