Re: Where have all the slots gone?
Never been to the Coventry auction, wife's away so I've the perfect excuse.
Re: Where have all the slots gone?
Although I don’t wish ill health on anyone, but it is always good for collectors when one of our colleagues passes on or has a change in interest and moves on to collecting bubblegum cards as that is when we get the chance to buy machines you rarely get to see. Seems to happen every few years, sometimes multiple times in a year......maybe a large collection will come up in 2019

What is it you know TF that the rest of us don't? More importantly does it concern me?

I probably wrote the above badly after re-reading it, no it was not meant as in me, I was generalising.

I remember seeing a letter in the media once from some senior citizen who stated "I really love Clint Eastwood and all his films, if he passes away soon we will get to see all his films repeated on television."

Like the pastor who was greeting his parishioners after the service and was talking to one woman who was gushing about how marvelous his sermons were.
"I'm thinking about having them published posthumously," he said.
"Oh wonderful," she replied, "the sooner, the better."

Re: Where have all the slots gone?
Careful what you wish for Tom, we all know who has more machines than anyone, and there are people who will do anything to get hold of certain machines... don't give people ideas.
Re: Where have all the slots gone?
Just a word of caution for anyone thinking of applying for a single machine permit from the Gambling Commission so that eBay will allow them to list an Allwin - don't hold your breath! I applied in September and, several emails and phone calls later, am still waiting. Latest is it's awaiting sign-off . As usual Covid 19 gets the blame though I fail to see how a Gov. Dept. that is presumably purely non public-facing can't operate fully from home. Can't wait for the EH and Coventry auctions to return in whatever form is allowed post Covid (bit of action on the EH site recently so will keep an eye ) so that we no longer need eBay
Re: Where have all the slots gone?
Brian, why bother with an Allwin, not much point....
I see the elephant house site is being updated at the moment, maybe some news will come out once back online. Also maybe there would be appetite for an early Coventry auction in March, if the suggested rollout of the Covid jabs goes to plan

Re: Where have all the slots gone?
Thanks for the advice clubconsoles but sadly I did go down that route before applying for a permit and within 3 days eBay not only pulled the item off but threatened me that if I did it again my account would be suspended . Within the time it was listed it had over 30 views and I had an offer of £700 but as it is a Pilwin 56 with all the "accessories", plus new penny/old penny options and in great condition and working order I wanted to test the water by putting it on as an auction item rather than buy it now so I declined.
Maybe the wrong decision but my feeling was that with all the lock downs etc., and with Christmas coming, there could be quite a few people stuck at home and interested in a toy for their batcave or a present for a loved one to keep them occupied .
May be time to follow your suggestion of facebook if I don't get the permit soon but as I had to pay up front I'm reluctant to lose my £25!!

Re: Where have all the slots gone?
yes i understand what you are saying. i decided in the best interest of this forum and all the collectors out there to send my advice as a private message. You have to do what you feel is right for you.
Good luck with the permit!
Good luck with the permit!
Re: Where have all the slots gone?
Also try sticking on Melrights site, for Bryans collectors and it is free
Re: Where have all the slots gone?
I have heard of many bandits being pulled off eBay - but an Allwin !!!
There are over a couple of dozen on there at the moment including two Pilwins ??
Have you upset someone recently Brian? I do recall a few years back quite a debate on this forum about the issue of slots being pulled and the only way eBay was aware of the machines was via someone complaining.

Re: Where have all the slots gone?
I did have a dispute with eBay a couple of years back, Arrgee, and this was their comment:
Firstly, I would like to inform you that gaming machine listings are permitted only from licensed sellers (who mention their licence number in the listing) or if the machine is completely non-functioning and being sold only for parts in different listings.
Brian, let me share that despite the policy in place, we have detected that some sellers are breaching them. What has happened is other sellers have followed them and it has created a trend. We are now taking down necessary listings. There are no exceptions for any seller. Where it is necessary we are even restricting and suspending the sellers for the lifetime.
Please recognize that all sellers are same for eBay and any other seller is not more important to us than you.
I can assure you that our specialised team is working 24X7 on such machine listings, hence you will gradually see a decrease in the volume of such listings on the site.
Brian, I certainly understand that you have listed this machine in a good faith, i.e. for amusement only.
But please understand that we only allow slot machines with licence number
By which time I gave up and Vineet hoped I had a good day

Re: Where have all the slots gone?
And yet I see listings of arcade machines most days on Ebay. What a ridiculous situation.
Re: Where have all the slots gone?
Disingenuous at best, but quite frankly the statement from ebay is totally inaccurate, as tallstory mentions, there are machines on ebay most days, however, once they have made contact there is no other alternative but to take off the item - very frustrating.brianh wrote:(quoting from eBay) I can assure you that our specialised team is working 24X7 on such machine listings, hence you will gradually see a decrease in the volume of such listings on the site.
Re: Where have all the slots gone?
This is an old topic re-resurrected every few years and am sure this will get linked to one the long running previous discussions. At the end of the day they are just showing they are doing their best to comply with local rules. I believe they have searches for key words when listing, eg when I have listed spares, which are allowed sometimes when using “one arm bandit” or other similar common terms “slot machine”, they do not always immediately list and can be delayed by up to 12 hours, I assume to allow someone to review. I have proved this by removing the listing without waiting and slowly removing terms that trigger this. Problem is it means your listing does not get same exposure as searches fail. Also I believe once you have been flagged, your account is more closely monitored, probably with more detailed search algorithms.
It is what it is and some are lucky, some not.......roll-on collectors auctions......maybe or hopefully some colleagues will set one up soon
