Unknown cast iron machine stand & stereoscope mech

Postby gameswat » Wed Aug 22, 2012 4:38 pm

Hey there, just been re-organising and cleaning out one of my storage sheds and came across this stand I own, well the top half anyway. It came from a huge old time collection in the UK so I'm pretty sure it's for a machine of some kind - maybe a Mutoscope?? The inner lip measures 8 - 7/8" wide by 16 - 3/4" long and the height once it's mounted to a base of some kind would be just right for a Muto or similiar. Looks like it's very early which is why I grabbed it. Anybody seen one before or have any ideas about what bolts on there?
Cheers, Gameswat.

Topic merged - site admin.

Also stumbled over this old English mechanism while clearing up my shed but I have no idea what machine it belongs to. Anybody recognise it? Cheers, gameswat.

I though this was the remains of a 2000 Sydney Olympics Torch, '!'

Please forgive our frivolity Gameswat, but frankly I'd be amazed if anyone could correctly identify your finds. I take it the stand had a heavy base to support it originally.

Your bottom is threaded.
Assuming there is/was a base it raises the question was the base sunk in the ground? In which case unscrewing it and walking off with it would be easy.
If the base was an ornate cast sort often seen on Mutoscopes etc they tend to be bolted as threading cast would be a bitch and not necessarily the best option. So I guess that the pole isn't cast either?

Still, it's good to see I'm not the only one daft enough to buy something without a clue as to why, what it is, what I can do with it, what I'm looking for in order to return it to splendour, what I'm going to tell beloved when interrogated. Thanks for cheering me up.

Badpenny
PS Can't believe I was actually excited to get up in the mornings..........I once loved going to work, and making a difference. Now I realise life can be too short and perilous to turn your back on a chuckle. !!THUMBSX2!!

PPS I've just posted this and noticed The Pennymachines Nanny has edited the above and when I put Bitch it changed it to *****
