Any ideas as to the closest match to the blue that is used on the Bryans' mechs?
Thanks

No, it's definately not Hammerite. Humbrol used to do a metalic blue that would be fairly close, but they've now gone. I guess there must be many model shops and online suppliers that still have old stock.

Re: BRYANS PAINT FOR INTERNAL MECH
I have used car spray paints very sucessfully to restore some of my Bryans mechs. The blue does vary slightly from machine to machine, not surprising since they we made for 30 + years.
I used Car Plan colour spray paint, the cellulose variety, several times and it was a perfect match on a Bullion, and Gapwin etc. "Denim Blue" metallic.
Ref CC Y AB124.
I bought a few cans several years ago. Don't know if they are still available from car repair shops? Perhaps N.O.S. from car boots or Steam fairs?
Anyway hope this may be of help. I recall a conversation with a fellow collector who visited Mr Jim Bryan at his factory and he was using car spray paint for the mechs towards the end.

I'm a relative newb to this game but I have always experienced that when Hammershite comes into play things go badly wrong. Great for old garden gates, makes me nervous when people contemplate using it on anything precious.

It is original on some machines though .... unless every Vest Pocket I've ever bought had been dipped in it afterwards.

Oh blimey, Hammerite... Well I've learned something new today. I suppose because it was cheap, down and dirty to use, no brush marks and no spraying... I can see the logic in it.

Colour of Mech in a Bryans Machine?
Topic merged - Site Admin.
Just wondered if anyone can shed some light on this... I've just wasted £12 buying 2 cans of different shades of blue from Halfords to spray the mech of an Elevenses. Doh! They are too dark! Does anyone know what the closest match of blue spray is to the mech of all Bryans machines?
It looks sort of light blue metallic?
thanks

I'm sure there are places where you can take one of the parts with you and they will match spray to suit.

Somewhere on this ever growing forum, and I am not quite sure where this subject has been covered in depth before
It might be worth doing a little digging into some of the old posts re painting
If in the meantime I manage to find the relevant post I will post a link to it

Following Slotalot's hint, I've attached previous answers to this question from down the back of the Forum sofa.
(It took Google Advanced Search to find it!)

Dear Nursey .......
When you take Mr P's hot milk and malty biscuit up to him please tell him he hasn't attached any previous answers to anything. Make sure you keep your voice low and sweet the way I like it, we don't want to startle him awake.

Unless Nursey's put something funny in my milk again, I think you'll find the previous answers on page 1 of this thread.
Re: Bryans paint for internal mechanism
If you look in your local Yellow Pages or do a web search you will find automotive paint shops thats will make you a can of spray. I have used one in Romford, Essex and the blue colour for the mechanism was right. They have paper swatches and match the colour of your metal part.
Hope this helps.
