It has been converted to 20p... Presumably from 1p originally?

Now I just need to fill her up! Not easy when you haven't made provision for 20p pieces (sigh).

I seem to remember the pair I had were on 1np.
Are the payout slides metal or plastic?

I'll check in the morning.

I'm not sure how the 'Dollar Drop' bit works... The machine has a payout slide filled with large brass tokens - maybe 10 or so. These are marked with "Samson Award", some kind of redeemable token?

Not sure on what combo these would pay out on and how many?

I imagine there will be another shorter payout tube set in front of the main one.
This holds the tokens and has a linkage attached to the top payout slide, when that one retracts it'll release a single token as well.

Yeh, they're lined-up in a 'rolling formation' in front of the payout tube. I'm assuming the three Jubilees or three melons will payout a token. I need to rig the reels and have a try.
Found one of the 'Mystery payouts', though - a random orange / melon / jubilee paid out 10 coins!

Same principle or is it principal?
Do you know how to force a win by stopping the clock mid spin?

I've read that you need to shove a screwdriver in to the spinning 'fan' mechanism?

Really need to get the whole mech out, but I can see the spinning fan (is that what you're calling the clock?) from the front but don't want to be too... 'Hasty'.

You're on the right track certainly, but we recommend pushing a duster into the fan as it's a lot kinder.
Take care when removing it as well.

Ok, had a quick play around. The three melons or three Jubilees pay a single token. According to the award card, this is a 25p prize - bit of a jackpot in the penny days!
I'll need to sort out a 'Special award' sticker as an overlay.

Oh... Any chance you'd be able to enlighten me on how to trick the machine into thinking i've fed it a 20p? I.e. To test the mechanism when the door is open.

In the middle of the white circle I've added there's a probe that slides towards you as you pull the handle.
When it finds a coin sitting there it's stopped by it and that releases the handle.

So put your finger over it and pull the handle.

.... but don't let the man with the keys see you do it! :tut

I've just seen the video of your machine in action in the other thread. Directly below the white circle drawn by BP is another circle - this time within a square metal housing. Just for info, this piece of kit would have retained the last coin played. In your video you can see the last coin played on your mechanism drops directly through this and down into the coin tube as some parts will have been removed at some point in its history. This retaining of the last coin played helps the operator to decide if the player is playing the correct or incorrect coins. It's usually fitted in tandem with a magnifying lens incorporated into the front door, so the operator can see the last coin played without having to open the cabinet. No issue if not present, just for info that's all.

Aah, interesting... Probably more use to the commercial arcades, right enough. Wonder why it would have been removed, though? Just something else to cause a jam potentially?

You're on the ball again, sounds as if you have an engineer's eye for this. (Don't worry we shan't tell him, he might want it back  )
Many of our treasured machines find their way to us with such gizmos missing. We then spend time, money and sweat tracking down those bits and replacing them.
Bits like ....
Coin escalators
Token acceptors
Jackpot Banks

Very often they didn't need removing in the first place just the dried grease removing and some oil adding.
However the moment a machine had a hiccup and started to go onto free play the operator would just rip out that part to ease his heart palpitations. :o

Also .....
Skill stop mechanisms
Locks
Cash boxes and their security plates
Reel strips
Denominator and manufacturer badges
........... and what about complete mechanisms that came out of a totally different case being shoved back into the nearest one to hand regardless of theme.

What else have we forgotten?

the obligatory spots of cream emulsion on the top of the case

Bought a book! (All went a bit 'off-topic', there :D

Anyway, I bought "Slot Machines", by Dieter Ladwig. Lots of nice photos but it's very much concentrating on older machines than i'm interested in ( mostly Jennings, Mills, Watling etc from 1930s-50s )

So still looking for a book which concentrates on 60s/70s mechanical machines.

Can't complain, though, still got a lovely condition used hardback for £3.89 posted!
