Awesome - mine arrived and it was definitely red originally.

Would you have any photos or remember what the instructions would have said?

It arrived and I love it even more now it's here. Very cool little game. I think it's going to jump the restoration queue as it's not very large or complex. Coon Hunt will required a fare amount of room and time to complete and I don't have either at the moment.

Here she is:

Found an old penny wedged inside, so that confirms the game is likely pre '60s, as Australia went decimal in 1966.

Wasn't sure if I should start a new thread but here is some progress on the poor old girl. While the game has been stripped, internal rust has been removed, treated and painted and the external paint has been slowly stripped to try reveal the original artwork. As with most of these old games, it's been painted more times than I could work out.

Finally got some more free time exterior of the cabinet has been stripped and rust treated and primed. I had planned to re-chrome everything and make this really nice but unforeseen spending has halted further visits to the paint or chrome shop for a while so it's getting a coat of red and re assembled.

Here's a 1970s photo of a Joy Stick on location in Bunbury, Western Australia.

Some more progress - it's getting there slowly.

Surround has been stripped and painted back to the original cream color. I hated it at first but the timber frame broke it up and made it bearable.

When I first got it going I only managed to make the course once. Since the rebuild it's far easier due to the rubber stoppers. I need to replace or adjust the playfield stops to reduce the coin speed to make it harder again.

If you lose it's pretty addictive. I''ll make a video once it finished.

Not a great update but the timber frame is now stained and cleared. I just need to order the glass and build the sign. I used the coin return tray and coin entry I got from the UK - pretty happy with them.

Glass went in last night which is good. I can now use it as a work bench lol.

I'll make the header next time I'm playing with wood - not worth making the mess for such a small item.

Two things which are nice ........
Your progress so far, sympathetic and looking professional.
The other: -
Having a dearly beloved who seems content to have large boxes full of clanky stuff hanging around. :o

Hahaha - yeah she puts up with plenty of my crap. She doesn't come out to the shed much and also avoids the spare room which I've also taken over.

Wow - that was fast (like your restoration work). How many tries before you mastered it?

Heaps, and it's definitely not mastered. I tried again after that one and only made the first hole.

Not finished yet but far better than it was and playable now. Still need to strip and paint the back panels and cash-box and build the topper. Unsure what I'm going to do with the playfield at this stage.
