I made a simple lock pick and opened my yale lock then set about cutting my own key, it's not that difficult. You need a blank of course and I had to do a bit of convincing as to why I wanted blank keys. You need to understand how your lock works, look on Youtube, plenty of lock picking videos on there then you'll see what the key does. A bit of paint or tipex on the blank then inserted into the lock will reveal what the key is trying to hit and what it's trying to avoid it's just a case of removing material with a hacksaw and file a bit at a time. Have a go.

What, me......... mean? my grandchildren think I am a cuddly old chap.
We did tell the poor office lad in the end, so he did not have to go out again - so instead, the boss got him to stand on a concrete block for a while to test the crushing strength !
Incidentally, I also have one of those locks without a key so that will be my next job, good idea Mr PM to seek advice from 'one of our gurus here, to give us all a step by step tutorial on cutting keys for locks'

Mr Pennymachines is spot on, best to keep the lock you have. I needed a key for my first allwin - a basic, traditional lock most seen on Oliver Whales, early Bryans and Wondermatics machines. Two 'locksmiths' were not interested and the third, someone who called himself a master locksmith that specialised in safe locks kept the lock for two weeks said it would be too expensive to do, without actually quoting me a price so presumably he couldn't be bothered. Mei-Mei, when you say 'down here', where is that?
