The whole point of a forum is to stir things up - keep the posts coming.

Your best bet with the back of your machine might be to plane or saw (or god forbid) sand out a ridge all round the inside of the new back so it recesses into the case flush on the outside. The not so good option would be to cut the new back larger to fit flush with the sides rather than inset. If the back had worm, check and treat the case edges if affected.

I must be used to living in a poop storm, I didn't spot anything.

Your imperial ply is waiting for you at your nearest house clearance auction house.
Old brown furniture is pennies at the moment, nobody wants it. Most cupboards/drawers/wardrobes etc. from that era used it on the back panel.
If you don't fancy paying for it, go around the back where they dump the stuff that doesn't sell.

If you don't have an auction near you try Charity Shops.

B&Q sell 5.5 mm plywood which is 0.217 inches. That's what I used on my penguin allwin - it's perfect.

Poop storm! Love it !!HYSTERIA!! What do you expect from a bunch of anally retentive collectors?

No serious collector would dream of using modern when there's so much period ply available. !PEEP!

Thanks coppinpr, The entire in and outside has been nibbled. Gone over the whole thing with stuff.

Thanks B.P. great idea. No auction houses near here but loads and loads of Charity shops.

Thank you Highfield, I have seen that but on this machine that is a little too narrow and leaves a gap of a couple of mm

Ok, so just dismantling the metal work on this machine and noticed that it is missing 3 of the control wires two lower ones in place top three missing. (See pics)
I could really do with a blueprint, template for replacements or at least a diagram and measurements. Anyone able to oblige?

Take another look at the images 13rebel posted on the second page of this thread - they tell you everything you need to know. It appears you're missing a shoulder screw (identical to the others) and the three upper wires. These act as gates impeding the downward progress of the ball until the handle has been turned. If you unscrew the various plates, you can see how it works by observing the ball channels. Find some similar gauge steel wire (I confess to using old coat-hangers on occasion) and use the wires you do have as a guide in shaping new ones - they terminate with the same bends. You have to get the lengths just right. If they're tight up against the end of the slots they'll obstruct the payout movement, so expect some trial and error. Sorry, I can't offer dimensions as I don't have a Win & Place.

I've been watching this video last week. For me it was great to learn more about allwins.
Maybe useful in this matter? Very nice site and the owner is also a member I believe?
