Recommend a good collectors book?
Recommend a good collectors book?
Hey all, new member here.
My dad's got quite into collecting various penny machines and I thought of possibly getting him a decent book for him with shows a good range of machines with their own individual ways of winning.
Christmas is just around the corner so I thought it could be good gift.
Thanks

Hi there,
There are quite a few books and some specialise, so I guess depends on what type of machines he is into. On this site there is a library of books available, from European, American and British, this may help you identify the type

Re: Recommend a good collectors book?
The indispensable book for collectors of British-made vintage slot machines is the little soft-back book by Paul Braithwaite: Arcades and Slot Machines.
I have copies available (£12 including postage). If you want a copy from me, send me a message because I see the Library online ordering system no longer works. I'm not sure which is the best book if your dad's primarily interested in bandits. There are a few to choose from.

Sorry for the late reply guys.. I didn't get any notifications in my email.
The Paul Braithwaite book looks quite fitting.
The machines he owns are all where you drop the coin in to release a ball through some pins to be caught in a cup, or twisting a knob which fires a ball round to land in cups.
None of them have pull arms like bandits do.
I think his latest pickup was machine called The Smithy? Think that rings a bell...

Re: Recommend a good collectors book?
The machines you describe sound very much like the catching type and 'Allwins'. The 'Clown catcher' is a typical example of a catching type machine and there are many allwins with different artwork. There are many examples and information of both these type of games within this site. I'm sure your dad would be delighted with Paul Braithwates book as described by Mr PM.
