Coins instead of tokens?
Coins instead of tokens?
Hi,
Busy restoring my Pace Comet, could anyone tell me:
1. Can I use real coins instead of the 25c tokens?
2. If not, does anyone have for sale any of the 25c tokens?
3. Which other coins are similar size ?
4. What was the money value of the 25 tokens back then?
Many thanks.

Re: Coins instead of tokens ??
Without knowing the exact dimensions of those tokens I don't know how we can advise really.
Is it the same as this?

Re: Coins instead of tokens ??
Your coin entry and tokens indicate a Danish coin of 25 Ore (in Danish there is a diagonal line through the letter O). This coin had a value of 1/4 of a Krone and has been discontinued due to inflation. A single coin of around 1950 in date will cost about £2 on ebay, so worth a try for the sake of a couple of quid? If you are happy with it running on Danish coins then more can be bought in bulk perhaps. With research on a numismatics site you may be able to find coins of the same dimensions as your tokens. I'm not a bandit man but I'm sure the bandit experts on this site will warn you of the pitfalls of using the wrong denomination even though it appears to fit. I think I would be inclined to use the 25 Ore if it works and call it 'part of the history'.
Re: Coins instead of tokens ??
Deano,I have just dug out some old Danish coins and have found a 25 Ore coin dated 1995 which has a diameter of 17.5mm which is quite a bit less than your token size. It could well be that over the years they reduced the size as they became worth less in real terms, much like our 5p for example. As I say, some research may find the right one,try the year closest to the year your machine was made?
Re: Coins instead of tokens ??
All the Danish 25 Ore coins between 1924-1967 and 1973-1988 had a diameter of 23mm.

Re: Coins instead of tokens ??
The diameter and thickness of the British Shilling and old size 5np are very close to what you're looking for and as such are worth a try.
Differences in diameter may result in coin jams in coin acceptors, escalators, pay out tubes and slides.
Differences in thickness may also affect as above and stop the slides from paying the correct number of coins out.

Thank you all for the info,
Will try all those suggestions and let you know what happens!

Re: Coins instead of tokens ??
I have a machine originally on 25 Ore. I find a 10p coin works perfect as long as you use the older thin ones - payouts are spot on. If I mix in any of the thicker ones sometimes I get paid out 1 short.
Plenty of 10p coins about.

Hi,
Do you mean the newer thinner 10ps, as the older 10p (2shillings) type were thicker?
Thanks.

Re: Coins instead of tokens ??
Of course you could change the coinage, although I am less familiar with Pace, so if slides not common to other makes may be a struggle finding bits.
You could be patient and buy as they come up like these on eBay of 11 coins, free delivery at 99p. Might be worthwhile contacting dealers like the seller of these coins “buckscoins” who are likely to have buckets of old foreign coins.

Re: Coins instead of tokens ??
The Swedish 25 Ore coins TF mentions on ebay are smaller than the Danish, i.e. 17mm not 23mm that Deano says he needs.
Re: Coins instead of tokens ??
20p coin looks almost the same size?
I have a few 25ore coins and various tokens the same size I would sell if any good to you?
