Pilwin Restoration
Re: Pilwin Restoration
Was just wondering how the cabinet on a Bryan’s machine is constructed. Is it screwed/nailed together? Also I was going to do a cash door with a one sided lock and was wondering how thick it should be and how it is kept in on the non-lock side (dowels, tongued etc.). Photos are always good.
Thanks in advance.
Thanks in advance.

All the wood's the same thickness, cash drawer is dowels and cabinet is nailed together.

Re: Pilwin Restoration
A lot of times the backflash cracks and are sadly no good. I don't mind at all new ones as they keep the machine looking fresh but also I try to keep as much original as possible but this cannot always be done due to the age and sometimes down to the fact they can be barn finds and in poor condition.
Re: Pilwin Restoration
I have finally got my corner pieces back from the chromers so I have managed to get the machine back together. I’ve had everything ready to go for weeks now so I am glad that I could get it all up together and try it. Just need to paint the infills in the corner pieces. I have to say I am very chuffed at how it has turned out and have really enjoyed the project. I have attached some before and after pictures and I had to make/fit a number of new pieces including; complete cabinet, payout bowl and coin funnel, coin slide, payout hopper, ball mouth, small piece of track, hinge halves and locks.

Re: Pilwin Restoration
I acquired a Pilwin 56 last year and have just got round to looking at bringing it back to life. The backflash was beyond repair so have had to replace that but otherwise all fittings seem to be original apart from a conversion at some time in the past to new pence - shame, as the original 1d slot is there but I don't have the parts or practical manufacturing ability to switch it back (somehow the light clink of a new penny doesn't have the same satisfying feel/sound of the old pennies).
It has 3 alternative payout fittings and I'm wondering if someone can let me know what number or word is missing from one of these, alongside the 6 and 2, as pic attached, as you will see that the paint has worn from this area. By dropping a ball into the gap to the right of the picture of this fitting I get a payout of 2 coins and a free ball but don't know if that is the intention.
Any advice or pic would be appreciated please as I've been unable to find anything on the site or on google.

Re: Pilwin Restoration
Hi brian, take at look at the video that accompanies the Pilwin in the Museum. It shows all three payout cowls. There should be two slides (1 coin & 2 coin) to cover the payout options: Win - Win - Win (all 1s), 3 - 1 - 2, and 6 - 2 - 4.
Re: Pilwin Restoration
OK - Silly question time - I've managed to convert the Pilwin 56 back to its original old penny payout (with many thanks to Lenny at Retro ) instead of the (to me) cheap feel of the new penny it had been converted to, and thought I had finished, then I realised, having set it with the single penny payout slide, that when I "won" one penny it didn't return the ball for a free go, which made winning a bit pointless.
I know from other allwins there's usually a simple adjustment to have a ball return to play on a win, but to save me starting dismantling again to have another look can anyone tell me where am I looking on the Pilwin please?
