Re: Are these bandits any good?
U-R slots. If you read back through the postings, you will find very good advice. The problem is you're asking for something that you do not adequately define. When you ask if the slot machines in the picture are any "good," what do you really want to know? Which ones you might like? Only you can decide that. Which ones are more valuable? That depends on too many factors to address, starting with the question of what the price being asked is. The community here at Pennymachines is extremely generous with their time and information. Much of what they dispense has been gained over decades of experience. If they appear a bit prickly, it tends to be when a newbie - that would be you - says, "Tell me everything you know but I'm not going to share what information I have that may be of interest to you." This is a community of mutual shared interest. If you truly want to be a part, start with giving the information you have as to where this collection is located and how to contact the seller. If you're not willing to be a partner in spirit and fact, then it might be in your best interest to move on to another group, or hobby.

What a truly helpful and intelligent reply. No wonder this forum has a good name for helping people out... must be a definition of "true genius" I was previously unaware of.
Re: Are these bandits any good?
I think some of the posts have been removed so this thread does now seem a little different......hey ho

Apart from a message I put up for about a minute this morning and then deleted as non-constructive, nothing was removed by mods or OP as far as I'm aware...

Re: Are these bandits any good?
Guys thank for all you advice, the contact i have seems to have a lot of slots i will leave it to those who have the knowledge here are the last ones i was offered i told him there not for me. i was going to have crack but not now.
Re: Are these bandits any good?
I would buy in the U.K. if your based here, as having experienced shipping many times from the US, it adds massive cost and risk. The last machine some would say is worth going for, the Horsehead Bonus, not my cup of tea always looked odd in shape, but popular with others and sell in U.K. on average for around £1500....

some people don't know when to go away when they say they are going to, the purpose of the latest set of photos posted being to prolong a thread which was exhausted long ago

Re: Are these bandits any good?
Most of us on here get the shivers over machines we remember playing as kids.
Hence the interest in machines from after the war. If it was built in the late 40s then by the time it got chucked out of the big arcades and gaming houses and found its way into back street seaside resorts and the end of the pier it was being played by sticky fingered kids in the late 50s and mid 60s.
Of course a lot of machines from the 30s were modernised and given new lives by having had the mechanisms rehoused in modern looking cases. Many an old cast mechanism from the years of American prohibition ended up in Europe encased in cast aluminium and Formica.
There are a lot of machines around where the fiddlers have taken the mechs back out of the modern case and used thinly cast repros of the original facings and new oak sides to make it look like an original. Mills Poinsettias in particular seems to suffer this fate.
I've been offered a couple or three over the years, they are tempting but just aren't quite right ..... in my eyes.
The Mills Hi-top is often quoted as being the machine they made the most of, however if a design works and is popular why change it? I like them.

Moonriver don't ever talk to me again, your just a waist of space and a disgrace to this site
Re: Are these bandits any good?
I love the Mills horse head and I'm after one, but I got messed around from a guy in the States over one and nearly got burnt. So I will just keep looking out for one over here - you never know your luck.
Re: Are these bandits any good?
Wouldn’t mind a Hi Top Bonus,
I agree Hi Tops are a classic and a few a few variants I have would be in my top 10 machines. They have in my opinion the classic shape for an old bandit that anyone would recognise. I took a snap of a window sticker on the back on my sisters vw camper heading off to be restored, the sticker must have been in there from the 70s or 80s....strange as although it had Vegas on the coinage stated 6 suggesting bought in the U.K.....

Re: Are these bandits any good?
You could make a good collection from hi-tops alone.
I wonder if anyone has made a complete list of all varieties.
(I've never seen a 'melon-belly' in real life).

I do have one on old penny, nice machine with original paint on front and sides. Certainly one of my favourites of the Hi Top range
