Bollands Drunkards Dream
Drunk in the cellar
Hello. I am new here so if this is in the wrong place forgive me. I have always as long as I can rember wanted a working model. Can I ask, what are the chances of buying one from a collector? Do they come up for sale often and what kind of price would I be expected to pay? Seeing one of these machines at the end of a pier while on holiday is probably the only nice childhood memory I have. Would love to see one. Thanks.

Re: Drunk in the cellar
Working models get harder to find every year.
I have been collecting for some time and I don't own one, but if you only want one machine in total you will probably get one.

Just bought this Bollands Drunkards Dream. Had to buy it unseen as I only discovered it at auction an hour before it was due to start.
I only have pretty bad photo's at the moment. Has anyone got any idea of a fairly accurate date for this one? I see there are quite a few variations. I've been looking for this one for about 7 years. As much as I would like to keep it I will probably end up selling it.
The motor is apparently 110v. Is that what it originally should have been? The last one I saw was when I was a kid, may have been Brighton pier. Too long ago.
Any thoughts or help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

Hello
Yes I will. It is in France. I have to get it collected soon. Once I have it here, I can photograph it properly inside and out. It looks like a good one.
Regards

It would have been. After commission and taxes it's a bit painful.
And trying to get it picked up is a nightmare.
Not sure what you mean "find the right crane mechanism".

Brigham is assuming you want to restore it. So is wishing you good luck in finding the crane mechanism that it would have originally sported before it was converted into a working model.

Haha. So nothing too difficult then.
Thanks. Would anyone be interested in some photos when I get it home?

Re: Bollands Drunkards Dream
If that had been in either of the forthcoming auctions over here £3,500 to £4,000, and that's pounds not euros.
Re: Bollands Drunkards Dream
Thanks for the information moonriver. I was thinking it would be around that figure when I bought it.
Always wanted one, but looks like I will have to sell it.

Hope it's all good when it arrives over here for you. If it is, sounds from replies here that you can keep for yourself and enjoy a while, then if you decide to sell would make a tidy sum - always a good position to be in.
Re: Bollands Drunkards Dream
Thanks. Never bought it to make money on it. Funny thing is its almost exactly as I remember it being when I last used one on the South coast when I was a kid. For all I know, it is the very one. I was also born in Camberwell, if I remember rightly they were made there. Small world.
Re: Bollands Drunkards Dream
Because I love these old working models. I've always wanted one.
I buy lots of stuff, not to make a profit.
I'll keep this for a while and sell it, and if I make a profit, great.
In 2011 I was using an old account: link to original enquiry.*
