Hi Hutto, :D I am not into the bandit side of our hobby :tut but I have been known to dabble in electrics from time to time :zapa: I have just been looking at your last photo, the one with the 3 relays, I can see that one relay has been replaced at some time, which is always a sign of past problems, 2 things to try :didact: first check the replacement relay (the one on the right) to make sure it is of the correct type and voltage as the others, also make sure that all 3 relays are pushed right into their sockets :smash: , It might not help, but is worth a try :!?!:
PS. Keep clear of that big Gray capacitor marked RS that is fixed to the transformer, it could give you a bad shock, even with the machine switched of and unplugged

Thanks Slotalot for the warning about the capacitor - got nailed by one of those devils on a circular saw once. All three relays seem to be pressed home properly but, like you said, one seems to have been replaced dirtdog How can I tell if the replacement is the correct voltage :!?!: The two correct ones have 24 v on them, the other has type my4 on it !PUZZLED! Just a thought - would it be advantageous to try one of the old ones in the place of the replacement? !!IDEA!!
Thanks hutto

If the replacement relay is marked MY4, then it is of the same type as the other 2 relays. As to the voltage, it should be marked in the side of the coil under the perspex cover. If it is the right voltage, it should be marked 24v AC, as the other 2 look to be AC relays. :tarah:

Sometimes the voltage is in its reference.... for example: 5A2480
Check if there is some manufacturer and code on the clear perspex.

Another thing - it is 3 fuse holder here isn't it?

Don't have one of these now, but would have thought these are DC, especially with the very large transformer at the top. I think what is being suggested is there are a number of fuses that should be checked as per your picture, and is always the first and easiest place to start. I would suggest you either try changing them or, if you know how, putting a meter across them.

I also believe there is a cut-out on these. I remember on mine, if there was a coin jam, the motor would cut-out. Cannot remember how this worked, but also could be an area to consider.

In your picture the metal button next to the counter dials may be the reset button.
The three black holders on the side look like fuses.

I believe that silver button is one of the those thumb locking screws like you get on the Aristo mechanisms, but yes this those three fuses should be checked. Of course the other nice thing on these machines is that the wiring diagram should be stuck to the back of the machine behind the mechanism

Will take a look at these points. The fuses look OK but I will renew them just in case. !!CHEERS!! I will also have a gander to see if any coins are stuck in the hopper. :smash: Thanks, Dave. !!THUMBSX2!!
Yes, that is one of those thumb tightener thingibobs, the same as the ones that hold the mech in place.

Aristocrat Hoots Mon bandit

Post by glittering-prize67 »

Well guys, I've just got a table top bandit, looks in good nick, collecting Sunday. I think it's Aristocrat but it's a quad reel called Hoots Mon, Scottish I believe. It should be old 5p but seems to take new 10p. Anyway, I will let you know Sunday, it's only 25 miles away. !!YIPPEE!!

Well done GP67.
I looked at it and think it was the hopper payout version?
One of our members has one, which sadly is missing some of the electrical'ness that regulates it.

I know he'd be interested to do a comparison to see exactly what's missing on his.

I just passed up a very cheap but complete quad reel Aristocrat because there were a handful of early circuit boards inside to regulate the hopper. The mechanical parts worked fine but I didn't like my chances of the electronics being an easy fix or staying fixed and reliable. Didn't help that it was big, tall and ugly! I repaired a similar age Bally with hopper and it looked much better and used Electro-Mechanicals to run the hopper payouts which was easy to repair.

Hi gp67, yes I would like to have a look at the electricary parts. I still live in hope that someone one day can fix it for me. !PUZZLED! So some close ups would be great,
Thanks, Dave.
