Rating for bandit lighting transformer

Post by shiny penny »

I have just acquired a Jennings bandit and the transformer for the lighting is rated at 6v 2.5a.
Unfortunately it gets very hot very quickly so something is wrong. Either it is just faulty or the rating is incorrect. Could someone please tell me if the above rating is correct in which case I will simply just have to replace it.
Thanks

Is this a Chief type machine? If so then I think the lighting is not original as there is no transformer just a mains (230v) choke running two (I think) 8w tubes, unless it's a light up which has more lights. Is it the ballast (choke) you are referring to? If so, there are now solid state ones that do the job without starters and cost about £3 for a one tube unit. Safer and easy to use.

Hello Coppinpr, it is the Chinese front (not that I know what that means) machine from last Sunday which we talked about. Lights up very well but the transformer gets too hot too quickly.
