Hawtins allwin - a fair price?

Post by coppinpr »

I saw this machine on the web for sale in the US, so not really available to many of us. Although a high price it seemed to me perhaps a fair price considering the condition and the make, but I'd be interested to hear what the allwin experts think. Is it worth the money? I know, as we always say, it's worth what the individual wants to pay, but for me, I think I'd like it.

Nice machine in good order but around £730 I would consider top whack. May well have had a complete refurb, a lot of these Hawtins had their ball routes covered on the back board with coloured sheet material (plastic, metal?) but this one has had a clear plastic cover similar to the Oliver Whales allwins.

It hasn't got the Art Deco plate that surrounds the pay out cup, instead it has a standard industry one.

Also it has a wooden door over the cash box. It should be a metal one with a convex front.
Clearly it doesn't need all those balls, only one.

I like the Hawtins Allwin metal case. I paid just under £700 for mine, which I thought was the limit. I wouldn't pay that for the one shown though.

This one's mine …

The metal cash box door is curved and should be chromed.
You can see the shield around the pay out cup is Deco style.

Price seems a bit on the high side to me but you never know about the American market. The machine looks great and the games are largely unknown here so the changes noted by BP would be invisible to the prospective purchaser. It's nice to see an offering of a British arcade game containing accurate information.

I agree John, the description is well written. Interesting comment 'The inside of the machine is marked "XXVIV" which may reflect a 1929 manufacturing date. The inside door also has a metal disk that is stamped "270". This number might reflect that this machine was the 270th produced in the year it was made but that is just an educated guess.' Although Paul Braithwaite's book puts the Hawtin All-Win to be 1930s.

Mmm...except that 1929 would be MCMXXIX and there is no such number as XXVIV.
