Does anyone know why the stripes on later Bryans backflash travels in the opposite diagonal to most of the earlier machines? I was told that Jim Bryan make a cockup when ordering, but I'm not convinced of this. !PUZZLED!

Over the years I've heard many explanations from ...
Printer's error
Ordering error
Marking introduction of Decimalisation
Boredom
The original direction was wrong, but he'd had so many made it took that long to use them up

I don't believe any of them, so I also wait to hear who else has heard what else.

1 or 2 sound very plausible. Forgetting to invert a design (with no text) for reverse screen printing is easily done.
On the other hand, this early Bryans Fivewin, made before they printed the stripey flashes, has the cut out strips in the 'wrong' direction...

I thought that fivewin backflash was the intended 'right' direction. I was told by someone who acquired a back flash from Jim Bryan which was striped from the hammer box that Jim said it was printer error but he went ahead and used them anyway.
