BDR lock & Key

Postby geordy55 » Sun May 31, 2020 5:55 pm

Wondering if anyone has one of these locks complete with its key. Failing that fantasy, how easy is it to make one a key to fit this lock ?

I don’t have my BDR near me, but I suspect they have a short nozzle on them and the good news is the barrel is centred as off centre ones are tough to source.

If they are the same size as standard locker locks like L&F, Yale and Union with tabs, it maybe possible to cut off the tabs and drill out the lock supports that hold them together and put through headless bolts.

See below three variants, L&F, Yale and Union. The bottom one is a off centre Union lock with a long nozzle.

Second picture shows top right and bottom left where you drill out locking suppo and fit bolts which would match the position. Check size as they are 4.5cm by 3.8cm and easily available online

TF, mine is 4.3cm x 3.9cm. The surround diameter is 1.6cm and depth is only 2.9mm. Not managed to find anything online yet. Thinking of opening up the lock and making a key.

So if I have understood your measurements, I believe the barrel is 22mm by 16mm.....which mean the medium size L&F lock is same dimensions of 43mm by 30mm overall depth of 33mm, just need to remove table and drill holes for bolt......they are on eBay about £11

Hi TF, unfortunately mine is smaller than this. Mine has an overall depth of 17mm, the key boss is 16mm dia x 3mm deep.

Are you offering Jeremy ?

I did take the lock apart last week to see if I could make a key, and it doesn’t look too difficult.

I'm not offering anything Dave, I've already measured up my spare locks and haven't anything with so short a barrel.

I’ve ordered a couple of blank keys and will try to make one to fit.
