I have also used the f12 developer tools to delete and the smart phone icon again but no joy.......should I delete 'all board cookies' on the site?.....or perhaps use a bigger hammer?

Would you mind taking a peek at (link removed - Site Admin.) and let me know what (if anything) you see and whether the navigation switches work? (The images won't display on this test page).

OOH,AAH,that link brings up the EH 20th September auction results together with a video [a previously used one] which is playable. I am able to scroll down. There are no images of the items in the auction just text and boxes with small squares with red crosses in the top left corners, when clicked on the squiggly colours are on the screen and in a box at the top of the screen it says 'page not available' [or 'found'].Don't know about 'navigation switches', however there is a box above the video with 'elephant house auctions' inside. When this is clicked upon,it takes me straight to EH page and everything, including the two missing results is there.Goodee! Are we nearly there? If you need photos let me know. Thanks.

OK, based on that test, I'm testing the 'new-improved' site menu on the Forum.
Apart from the Forum, so far it's only implemented on this Arena page: https://pennymachines.co.uk/arena/eh-20-09-2015

Can you confirm it's working?
In particular, can you try clicking the mini menu icon
desk-menu.jpg

to bring up the mobile menu which should look something like this:

Back to square one I'm afraid. When your link is clicked on I get the picture montage [choc machine, golf machine etc] and no ability to scroll down. When the mini menu icon is clicked on then I get the same overlay as before so am unable to get to the moble menu. The overlay will very briefly dissapear when I press the back arrow and then reappear.Despite closing down and opening the site several times I am still left with the overlay without the verticle blue menu bar.

Just an update. I have no vertical blue bar on left, no mini menu or phone icon. When I access the Arena via the very bottom of the board index I can get the latest EH auction results but no other items in the Arena. Also can't get Calendar, Archive, Market etc. All just the squiggly coloured lines.

Thanks for the update.
A couple of days ago I ran Windows Vista on a virtual machine and browsed the site using Internet Explorer 7. The mess which confronted me is presumably more or less what you're seeing. :o
I guess if I can get it to function on IE7, it should also work on IE9, although I've learned it's tempting fate to make such assumptions. Unfortunately, because almost everything fails with IE7, I'm forced to provide an alternative simplified menu just for IE9 (and earlier). Even this is proving tricky without screwing things up for modern browsers, but I'll have another bash at it tomorrow.
Archive, Arena, Calendar, Library, and Museum should be viewable now. !PRAY!!

I know you can't update your browser, as 9 is the last supported version on Vista, but it might be worthwhile installing Firefox or Chrome.

I've done some more work on the menu.
Tested and working on Windows Vista: IE 7; Windows 7: IE 11, Firefox 41, Chrome 48; Android Lollipop: Chrome 43, Firefox 38; Ubuntu: Firefox 41, Chrome 45. !!COFFEE!!
I've tested Safari and others under OS X (Apple) with online emulators, but not sure how accurate they are.

IE 7 - 9 now show a simplified menu, top of page.
On other browsers, first time visitors to the site with mouse-controlled devices should get the Desktop Menu (flags) by default or, with touch-operated devices, the Mini Menu (mobile). In either case, the alternative menu can be chosen, if preferred, by clicking the appropriate icon, and it will persist (thanks to a cookie) unless another choice is made.
If the site is viewed on smaller devices (less than 400 CSS pixels), only the Mini Menu will be available.

Remains a work in progress. Don't hesitate if there are still issues, suggestions... !!HELLFIRE!!

Nah! I'm using IE9 and the whole page looks slightly larger now ( such that it no longer fits across the screen and there is a small horizontal scroll) and some of the fields at the top now overlap. There is a menu at the very top (above the clock) starting about 1/3 of the way across the screen and consisting of rectangular grey boxes that are not in keeping with the style of the rest of the page and 'News' overlaps to a second line. There is no slidey menu on the left side of the screen any more. :-(

Would you like to remind us all again why you decided to bugger about with the menus and pages in the first place? I thought they worked Ok before. :tut

I use Chrome on a tower PC and it worked fine before the change and after. However, about 4 days ago it just brought up a section, like the page had been magnified, so I started to access using Android on a cheap tablet I have and it works fine on that.

Anybody admit to changing anything since my post yesterday, or have GCHQ finished installing the snoopware on all our machines now? Everything looks fine again now and the menu is back on the left. I never touched nuffin, honest.

No, but I did... \|\/|/
And I'm afraid the improvement was short lived.
The problem is that although the menu works fine on all browsers so far tested, including those on mobile devices, Internet Explorer 9 and earlier versions fail to display correctly. To make life a little harder, IE 9 messes up in different ways on Vista and Windows 7 (which I guess you're using?) My workaround for IE 9 and earlier is the bland top menu you're seeing. If I can find a better solution, I'll implement it.

I "decided to bugger about with the menus and pages in the first place" because of issues discussed here:
Adobe Flash plugin has crashed
Odd things happening

In short, I had no choice, as the increasingly buggy and hack-prone Adobe Flash plugin (upon which the old menu depended) is being phased out and is no longer readily available on many mobile browsers.

I suspect that happened while I was tweaking something. Can you confirm it's OK now?

I've had another peek at this. You should now get the default desktop menu (without the mini menu option) on IE 9 - not working very smoothly, but usable, I guess. What's more, currently it only works for the Forum. On other areas of the site IE 9 (like previous versions) still get the makeshift top menu.

By the way Bod, what operating system are you on? If you can upgrade to the latest version of the browser you'll notice an improvement.

Hmm, all looks a bit weird on Apple's Safari browser...

'Magnified', as someone said before, and blue background instead of the familiar light beige.

No 'new posts' direct link on the board index, either, and the Quick links drop-down doesn't seem to work very well.
