Additional to PM's and messages from mods etc., I see 'Notifications' inform you when there are replies to topics you're subscribed to and when your posts are quoted by others.

Done it! !THUMBS!

Meanwhile, I'm still typing away at the very bottom of the page using a text box that isn't white but the same background grey as the borders etc. Which I imagine is why I still can't access emoticons.

OK - let's have another crack at this*.
You're on Windows 10 but I've forgotten which browser you use...
I tried to find out by looking through the site stats. but something caught my eye. Number 1 of January's top 30 referrers (with 89 hits) was this Bing search: American womens arses
It seems your posts are attracting a different kind of connoisseur BP.

As you're the only one reporting this issue, I'm guessing it's something unique to your set-up. Could it be caused by a Firefox add on you're using I wonder?
Two things to try. Go to Tools/Add-ons and on the Extensions tab temporarily disable anything you have there to see if this eliminates the behaviour. If not, try doing the same on the Plugins and Services tabs.
The other thing is to test on a different browser, if you have one.

Right this is via Intercourse Explorer and it's typing in the right place :HaHa:  :D  ;-) !PUZZLED! t'would also appear the emoticons work and all.

So you're right Mr P I have an add-on in FireFix that doesn't like slots!

It would be interesting to know which add-on is to blame. As I said, you can switch 'em off one by one till you pin it down.

Found it !!THUMBSX2!!

It's called Grammarly .....

Homepage http://www.grammarly.com/

Sadly it's quite a useful little tool, but we're talking about Pennymachines here, so there's no contest.
I didn't discover any other application effected by it. I can only imagine it didn't like old pennies.

I liked it because by highlighting a word on any site it popped up a box with a comprehensive background to the word. Rather like you get on a Google Kindle.

For what it's worth, I've reported the bug on the Grammarly website.
LanguageTool is open-source/free and available for Open Office, Desktop, Chrome or Firefox. You have to set it for GB English (unless ya wanna tawk like our Yankee pals). !!USA!! Seems to work OK but don't know how it rates.
Hey - I thought those Kindles were strictly Amazon. :o

Thank you for bearing with us while our engineers are working on a solution to this issue.

Unfortunately, this will not be a quick fix and I cannot provide you with an estimated timeframe, as the developers will need some time to analyze the cause of this issue.

I’m going to close this case, but if you have further information regarding this issue, please reply to this email and the case will be re-opened for further investigation.
Hmmm... I think that's a no-can-do.

Tell you what Mr. P let's really give them something to worry about. I also discovered it has a serious effect on Facebook as well.
It only allows you to enter a handful of characters before it starts deleting the beginning of the thread one letter at a time for each one you try to add at the other end.

Not being compatible with a top notch site like this might not be a priority to them, however "Bookface" may make them Gulp!

Not being compatible with this site means it's not compatible with millions of others using the same software. I've notified them of the Facebook bug.
Our engineers are aware of the issue with Grammarly deleting texts on Facebook and are currently working to resolve it.
