Some members can't login

Post by pennymachines »

Several members are reporting problems logging in following some recent changes.
I've undone the changes for now to allow members to log in while I diagnose the issue.
If you had problems logging in, it would be useful if you could let me know what happened/didn't happen and if you were using a mobile device.

I had the problem also with my iPad. When i tapped on the log in button nothing happened and i stayed on the same page. When i first deleted the cookies, than i could log in, but didn't get the option to remember me. With iPhone no problem. Log in is now fine on iPad. Thanks *BOWS*

Thanks for the feedback. Four members said they couldn't log in at all with the new system. The 'remember me' function was a different issue.

OK - everything was working because I reverted to the default system.
However, an alternative system is required to integrate new website features, so I've reinstated the problematic login again for testing.

If you find you cannot login under this system, it would be really helpful if you could post here and mention the device you're using (also the browser and operating system, e.g. Android, Windows etc., if possible).

To allow you to do so, I've opened up this Feedback area to guest posting.

Can't login so can't enter my username. Catch 22?

You just want everything on a plate...

Sorry I wasn't expecting my post to work without a username. I'd tried it with one (although not logged in) and it didn't work.

I'm bod and your new login screen seems to work OK with Win7/IE11 but the new stuff no longer works with IE9. I realise that is no longer supported by MS and if you don't want to support old browser versions you could maybe code a version check into your login screen like many apps do nowadays?

OK thanks again for letting me know. Weird that it's working now for Bryans fan.
To prevent account hijacking when members log in from public computers, etc., I've reinstated a "Remember me" function, rather than making that behaviour the default.

There are version checks coded into the site, with different styling served as required. Trouble is, I make changes sometimes without testing on those old browsers.

So, currently Todd, Bod and Mei Mei (soon to be a new kid's TV hit :? ) still can't log in. Is IE9 the common denominator?
I need to hear from Mei Mei, oldschool, and anyone else who can't log in, what operating system and browser they're on.

I've run some tests on a virtual box trying to log in on IE7 - 9. All I got was a blank page, so I've removed my custom styling from the log-in form and it's now appearing. It seems likely this was the problem.

Not so fast Mr Penny... Bod here again on his trusty old IE9 PC.

Yes I previously clicked Login and got a blank screen too.
Now I do get a new Login screen but unfortunately having entered my details it then goes to the main index without logging me in.
Clicking the Login button a second time then has no effect.

I seem to be logged in as far as the Login screen is concerned, but logged out as far as the Index page is concerned. Is this feasible? Could you try your old virtual box again please?
