Posting ID's

Post by malcymal »

Dear pennymachines, is there any reason why when in a post, there is no URL ID showing in the address box on your browser. Reason being, it would be useful to be able to cut and paste a topic URL within a posts to send to interested people, as well as adding this to your favourites as a separate link. thanks.

Hi malcymal,

Yes I was aware of this - the result of my decision to build the site in frames - i.e. a frame on the left for navigation and one on the right for content. I should be able to get around it in the Forum (as I've done in the other areas) by tweaking the software a bit and re-coding all the Forum links.

I might have another go at it later, but for the time-being I've implemented a kludge that produces unique URLs that are not very elegant, but work: - this topic, for example, is now https://pennymachines.co.uk/..htm?https://pennymachines.co.uk/Forum/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=939

The only bit you actually need is https://pennymachines.co.uk/Forum/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=939 but the whole thing will work too.

Another way to get around the problem is to right click on a link you want to visit and Open Link in New Tab or Window (Firefox).
