Coin Mechs

Postby simon » Tue Jan 20, 2009 1:50 pm

I have a "Sweet ADD-A-LINE" a decimal AWP from the 1970's running early decimal currency and made by Mariane Electronics (later part of Diageo PLC)...and it's the early decimal bit gets me.

I'd like to change the 50p and 5p slots that do not form part of the payout system and convert them to newstyle 5p and 50p.

Has anyone altered early (pre Mars ) electronic coin censors? I am not even sure these are electronic put they do have a solenoid bar to stop additional coins being added in.

Hello Simon. I guess you are referring to Coin Controls S1 mechs.
Until the advent of Mars type multi-mechs, the S1 was an industry standard.
They are mechanical acceptors where the coin passes a micro switch thus producing a pulse or momentary on/off. The solenoid you refer to is known as a lock-out coil.
They are still obtainable, although I doubt you'll get one to operate on 5p - nothing much operates on less than 20p these days.
