Help with unknown American machine
Topic merged - Site Admin.
I've been thinking about a machine I saw recently for sale on an antique dealer's stall. It looked like a small American non-payout machine. It had a metal case painted in green with a wooden base and top; there was also a metal sign saying 'Barn Yard Golf' attached to the top of the machine. When I first saw the machine I was not 100% sure it was original. It just didn't look right in places as it looked a bit repro looking to me or then again it could have been restored with parts replaced etc. Well, I never bought it; the guy wanted £350 but I never asked for his best price. I went back half an hour later to take another look and it had been sold. Still thinking: have I done the right thing just walking away and not buying it? Maybe someone out there knows about this kind of machine and if there are some repros about,
Cheers

Hello,
I too saw a green trade stimulator called "Barn Yard Golf" at The Detling antiques fair on Saturday. After a quick look over it I decided it was a bit strange but did not think it was a repro. Anyway after a bit of a think I bought it.
When I returned home I did some investigation work and came to the conclusion that it is a PEO Play Poker with the right score card over the ball area but the wrong marquee on the top. Apart from that, after taking it all to pieces I have come to the conclusion that it is original and will need a bit of tweeking to make it right. No, I did not pay £350 for it, although that was his starting price. I hope this clears things up for you.
Regards John.

There are a couple of examples of the gumball vending Barn Yard Golf (Standard Model) by the Peo Manufacturing Co., 1932 at http://www.arcade-history.com/?n=barn-y ... l&id=17627 and http://www.bargainjohn.com/w224cBarnYardGolf.htm showing the original graphics and instructions.

Hello John,
Good luck with the machine, hope you get it fully working soon. Would be nice if you could add a photo on here. I forgot to mention, the dealer looked a bit like Del Boy in his coat and I think that put me off somewhat. I've had a number of those small American trade stimulator machines over the years, including a couple of counter-top Daval Penny Packs but just started buying slots recently again after selling off my collection a few years back.

Hi spintop,
The picture is the same machine pictured by Ballymad so it has travelled a long way from Fife to Kent.
The dealer was the same miserable sod you spoke to, camel coat and all. Mind you, he cheered up a bit when I got my money out.
Sorry I pipped you to the post, better luck next time.
Regards John.

i seen it at ardingly in the summer
then it got sold to someone at that fair when it 1st appeared
he has been taken it to a lot of fairs
i have seen it about 3 times since
i didn't like the look of it

its an original for ya
also there is not a lot of stuff out there to buy now anyway
most pieces are basket cases
you have to get what you can ,i go to
most big fairs and very rarely come up

Hello,
Thank you Pennymachines and Ballymad for your information I found it very useful.
Just as a matter of interest I wonder if you know what it went for at the auction in Fife?
Jra.
