American, British, French or German? We want to know about it.

Wonders machine

Post by nostalgic machines ltd »

Here is a pic of a Wonders machine not on your list. It is a Space Shot. It looks to be based on the Wonder Pools, with a different backdrop. I found this one recently and in great unrestored condition. Any info welcome.

Nice. First space theme Wonders I've seen. Looks like one of the later ones, judging by the plain cabinet design (no fluting down the sides, no pyramidal top) and rectangular-backed coin cup. I've added it to the list.

Readers of Mechanical Memories Magazine have now joined the quest to discover more Wonders Machines. In the latest issue, I've reported two more to go on the list:
Nine Pins and 24 Winning Cups
I've posted pictures of both in the Wonders Pictures thread.

John alerted me to this large Wonders Hit-N-Run recently purchased by "a well known collector".
First I've seen. The uniquely American sport of baseball is an odd theme for a British game.

In the March issue of Mechanical Memories Magazine, I published details of seven previously unknown Wonders allwins. These have come to light as a result of the discovery of four Wondermatics advertisements, which were published in the Amusement Caterers' Association year books, 1962 - 65. The seven 'new' machines are:

CANNON BALLS (1965)
CHIP OR BUST (1964)
HELTER-SKELTER (1963)
JACK-IN-A-BOX (1965)
KUM FISHING (1962)
PLUSFORE (1962)
SNOOKER (1963)

* Added to the list - thanks Jerry, Pennymachines.

Due to space limitations, I was unable to publish all four advertisements in the magazine, so here they are.

Sadly, Arrgee, I expect most users of this site remember LSD.

I know a few hippy types who probably remember the other LSD too!

Wonder List - Alternative Wonder Win Back Flash

Post by peter »

 Have found a photograph of a Wonder Win with alternative back flash (looks similar to that used for Bonus Win) to that shown on pennymachines website. This is from a Christie's auction dated 23/05/2002 - appears it sold at the time for £329 (including buyers premium) - the link is http://www.christies.com/LotFinder/lot_ ... ID=3916359

The difference between the two are that the Bonus Win has feature which allows a ball falling into one particular channel of the gantry to fall into a hold position within the mechanism. Subsequently, when a win is made by another ball this releases the held ball to allow an extra coin to be paid out. If you look at the playfield of the Bonus Win below the gantry there is a viewing window which allows a player to see if a ball is resting in the mech which would allow for an extra payout. As you saw, the artwork is basically the same.

Spotted photo on a Belgium pinball website of what appears to be a Wonders allwin on sale at a Dutch jukebox show in 2004.

The photo is of poor quality, but looks to be of the 8 cup variety and the back flash appears to read "????? Selecta", so not sure if this is a known machine or something new for the Wonders List - any ideas?

I believe the above is a Wonders Super Selecta allwin.

Here's a Wonders Arcade standard size fairground theme allwin (courtesy John Peterson).
