Re: Wonders Steeplechase
Nice job, did you make the shelf too?
Or like many of us, must it be procured from the time served craftsmen of B&Q?
It makes me wonder why my efforts at breathing life back into old slots garners a smile accompanied by a "Very nice dear, how long has that taken you?" However I'm not trusted to bang a shelf together.

Very nice indeed...and the next project is???
The trick here if another machine will cause friction at home is to build a double size shelf in the first place, this has the double effect of giving subtle advance warning of either long periods of "going down the shed" or greasing up the kitchen table and ...of course.... looks odd without a second machine

Re: Wonders Steeplechase
Thanks guys for the comments. The whole machine was taken apart, the oak frame was sanded down to bare wood, then a couple of coats of linseed oil and then waxed. The internal parts have been cleaned, the re chromed parts was carried out by a company in Manchester. It cost me £50 and that included a repair to the hammer box.
The shelving is oak to match the case of the Steeplechase.
So that's my three allwins finished. As you can see, the others were a Win and Place and a Bryans Fivewin.
How did I manage to get them displayed inside the house and not the shed? First I started with one machine, then get the grand kids on your side, then after a few months, start on another. I found that getting the family to use and play with the machines, waters down the arguments from the war office. I bought the Steeplechase when she was at our son's for a few days. I was in the dogs house for several weeks after that. Was it worth the endless tuts and 'where's that thing going to go?' comments from the wife? - YES, of course it was! .
Might have to let the dust settle down before starting on the next.
Re: Wonders Steeplechase
Why is the 5 win hidden in a cupboard Alan, or is this 'female appeasement/pacification'
Re: Wonders Steeplechase
Hi Arrgee
The small bedroom was the only place available for the allwin collection, when there was no room on the walls the cupboard was the next available space. I know it looks a bit odd, but it's playable

So long as you aren't forced to get in there with it in order to do so.alan57 wrote:Hi Arrgee

Here is how I get around the issue, This an occasional table in our front room, not only does it support a display of useful household detritus but has handy storage area beneath.

I guess a crane or working model is out of the question thenI was in the dogs house for several weeks after that. Was it worth the endless tuts and 'where's that thing going to go?'

Re: Wonders Steeplechase
take the dado rails off the walls PB and you would have extra space to store your stuff
Re: Wonders Steeplechase
Did you make a new lower gallery from scratch or did you manage to find a replacement one. If you did make it, it is certainly very good
