Ring-a-Bell wiggly wire type skill games

Ring a Ding: Palladium Game on 1D
I have acquired the above machine where you try and move a handle along a bent piece of metal and if you win you get your money back.

But I have a problem, can anyone tell me what sort of battery it takes? I don't want to burn out the solenoid.

Secondly does anyone know anything about the game or where they were sited.

Many thanks........................

I've got one as well - I think it takes 6v batteries.

Hi Mr PennyMachines :D , and just to prove that a photo is worth a 1000 words, as soon as I saw your post the penny dropped and it rang a bell :claps: pun intended. I had a photo of the Ring-A-Ding on file all the time. I also found a picture of the instuctions for the Beat-The-Bell machine - may be of help to someone :!?!:

Some great shots. Thanks. I have the beautiful crafted plastic one, so fortunately a battery is all that is required.

Can you see what sort of battery lies behind the red one shown or can you suggest a suitable large square battery that won't melt the solenoids?

Hello cheeky :D ,
What sort of terminals are in the battery compartment? Why not take it along to your local radio shop and see what fits? Or better still, go next door and borrow a camera. !!THUMBSX2!! Good luck. :tarah:

The battery terminals are missing and the camera won't help with identifying them although I could post some pictures of two wires. xx

Hello cheeky :D ,
Two wires... and no terminals... Right, measure the battery compartment: if it will take a battery 67mm x 67mm x 110mm... then I think you will need a 6 volt screw terminal Lantern Battery.
Check out this link... http://www.cellpacksolutions.com/Search ... p?ID=PC915
I don't think you will do any damage to the coils at that voltage, and the coils will only be energised for a short time anyway  ... and always remember the electrician's colour code: RED to RED ..... BLACK to BLACK ...... & BLUE to BITS :zapa:
Good luck. :tarah:

vintage buzz off type fair ground stall machine

Post by glittering-prize67 »

Topic moved & merged - Site Admin.

I have a counter top machine that takes the old penny. It has a red body and yellow perspex at the back with words stating how good or bad you are the further you get. Basically you follow a wire with a metal ring and try to get to the other side. If you win, your penny is returned; if you lose, it goes in the coin box. It's in very good condition and great fun. Just wondering what it might be worth. It is a genuine fairground stall game.

One in a metal case on 3d play went on ebay for £167 a few months ago. Having said that, look how much the Easypush went for at last year's Coventry auction - so it's the usual case of if two (or more) people like it...

I sold a metal one on 3d for over £200 to a Brit working in Silicon Valley and obviously homesick, but I think a lot has also to do with graphics on these. About a month before I sold mine there was a metal one on 5c called "Jake the Shake" in the States on Ebay and it went for about $150.

The one I have is same as the red one pictured earlier in the thread. I simply put a small transformer inside and neatly wired it for 240 volt use, so now you just plug it in. No worries on battery damage etc. I must say we have fun with it at parties. I assumed originally they were re-chargable so they would be used on a fairground stall during the day and recharged overnight for next day. I could add a pic inside mine if needed.

Metal, plastic and now wood... Earliest looking version I've seen, sold by Ashley Waller for £400 at the start of the month.
A vintage 1950s Tremble Tester slot machine.

I wonder, did the Tremble Tester have a shocking coil inside to give the player a belt !OMFG! when he touched the wire? It would certainly make you tremble if it did.
