In 1981 parliament saw the first reading of labour MP George Foulkes' bill titled "control of space invaders". No, this wasn't a crazy attempt to prepare for an invasion from outer space, but an equally crazy attempt to ban the hugely popular "Space Invaders" video game. The bill failed to pass, presumably too many MP's were down the pub playing asteroids during the vote.
