My Rotomat Juwel and Duomat penny arcades

Postby liquorbox » Thu Jan 25, 2018 9:06 pm

I recently picked up two Gunter Wolff wall mount machines.
A Rotomat Juwel and a Duomat.
Both are working machines.
Both are unlocked but no keys.
Both currently use Canadian nickels but I don't think any parts were changed or altered.

The Rotomat Juwel:
-- The case is complete in fair condition with some chipping top front edge.
-- The plate on the side near the trigger arm is cracked and the top stop broken.
-- The outer metal has been painted a John Deere green.
-- The the first and second wheels always stop on potential winner numbers and the third wheel determines if it gets a payout. (Don't know if this is normal).

The Duomat:
-- The front glass is solid black blackout for the background. (It's a 1959 model so I don't know if this is normal).
-- The payout is always 2 coins if landing on any payout position. (I think this is an adjustment issue but don't want to touch it till I learn more).
-- The arm and outer metal parts need painting.

The Duo-mat has lost its glass at some time and someone has made a decent job of keeping the machine alive with a new one but it's nothing like the original I'm afraid. If you need copies of the instruction cards I can email them to you.

Yes I know the glass has been changed.
I know finding a replacement would be near impossible.
I actually like the way it looks as it is and it's fine with me.
Anybody I know won't know the difference.

Not sure where or how I would attach instruction cards.
Thank you for the offer.
I may take you up on that at a later day if that's ok.

I was told these were brought here from Germany about 20 years ago as they are and have been used by the guy's three kids almost daily since then.
The payout on the Duomat stopped working about a year ago he said.
With a little 3m oil I was able to get it to payout but the amounts aren't right.
I don't want to play with adjustments till I learn a little more about how it works.

You might want to consider thin peel-off vinyl instruction cards and even the "Duo mat" wording at the top I think would look great. I can send you the artwork - you just print it out and attach.

I must have come across 20 Duo Mats without their front glass during my time (less than one a year).
The difference in value between one and a complete machine is so dramatic I once enquired into having them professionally screen printed and mirrored.
A total non starter, due to set up costs and economy of scale needed, pity really.

A cheaper option would be to print off vinyl sticky ones, however they'd never look pukka because of the mirror stripes.
I've constantly said Duo Mats in complete condition would be future treasures, and a particularly fine example passed through The Coventry Auction about 3 or 4 years ago fetching in excess of £450 I think.

They aren't the easiest of machines to convert to old penny, I posted on here a quite detailed account of servicing one. I can't find it now.

Coppinpr I Sent you a message with my email address.
Thank you in advance.

Most of the pictures of the glass don't clearly show me the stripe and mirroring effect.
Can someone please post a closeup of a section of it?
I may play with a couple ideas in an attempt to reproduce the effect.

I wouldn't doubt if today's vinyl printers would be able to replicate it including the mirror effect if you had a good straight on picture of the front.
Maybe just the striping and graphics in vinyl and on a mirror behind the glass?

I don't see a lot of information on the Rotomat Juwel.
Is this a rare machine?
Even on the elephant house 5 year sales pages there were 7 or 8 of the Duomat sold but none of the Rotomat or Rotomat Juwel.

What is the difference in the Rotomat and Rotomat Juwel?

badpenny if you do find the service information please let me know.
I have no knowledge of any type of arcade so I'm a real greenhorn.
I am mechanically inclined so learning should be easy.

What is the difference in the Rotomat and Rotomat Juwel?
Pretty much two years, the Rotomat came out in 53 and the Jewel in 55, there is a little more metal furniture on the Juwel. There are a lot of very similar models, this is partly due to the odd slot machine laws in Germany after the war, after(I think) three years they had to be broken up or exported(which is why both yours have a gov licence plate on the front saying when it was made). Both the machines had a slightly nicer case than some of the others.
As to the reel strips, out of the factory there should be one loosing number on reel one (number 5) and 3 losing numbers on reel two (the number 6) although your machine may have been re vamped in the past and the payouts changed, usually winning numbers have a red line through them and losers dont, are the payouts in German or UK?

Just to frighten you, here is a photo of a Rotomat mech in pieces

Thank you coppinpr.
That didn't scare me (that much). Lol
The payout cards are German.
I haven't looked at the wheels themself as far as how many potential winning numbers each have but the potential winners do have the stripe on them.
I just saw that each spin ( so far ) resulted in the first and second wheel ended at a potential winner and the third decided the outcome.
I've only had these a few days.
