Hi guys, I am a total newbie and trying to find some help with this project. I bought it a while ago and like to restore it. But where to start?
What is the best way to get the casting looking like new? I need new reels (the old paper ones are broken), the award card is missing and also the award card holder. Is it even possible to find all the items I need or is this a waste of time? Tips are welcome. Thank you.

Given lots of time and effort these machines can be transformed. The paper reel strips are the least of your worries - the mech looks in poor condition but could be transformed if you take your time. You need a certain amount of mechanical know how. Have you attempted anything like this before?

I've had three of those.
I used to take the castings and handle to a plater to be stripped and polished.
If you can strip off the varnish on the wooden sides it's best, and then re-varnish. Luckily I still have access to the old formula Nitromors which is no longer available to the general public. The new stuff is pathetic.

The award card is there to the right of the reels window. Hard to tell but looks ok.
You have the skill buttons, but your photo of the mech doesn't show if the stops are still connected.
Likewise I can't make out if the vendor is intact. If it is check that the reset lever is attached to the inside of the handle.

The reels should be tin not paper, perhaps the originals are under the paper ones, I've known that to happen before.
Is the back door there? If not you're not likely to find one. Although the prototype was modelled on a 30s Mills the door is different.

Don't go crazy considering chroming the originals were either polished or nickeled which is a much warmer finish to chrome.
If you want an idea of the colour scheme there is a superb photo of one in Dieter Ladwig's book.
If you click on this link Here and scroll down you'll see the last one I sold, the photo enlarges if you click on it.

No, this would be my first attempt.

The skill stops are missing and the vendor is not intact. The reels are not really paper but like paper with a kind of plastic layer over it, but they are so old and ripped and missing pieces. The backdoor I have with a lock only, no key.
The one on that picture looks so nice. You think I can still find parts for it? Like the skill stop?

Thank you for helping me out.

I'd be very surprised if you'd find any parts.
Is the jackpot there? It's more important than the skill stops.
It's a shame about the vendor.

These machines were rarely seen in the flesh, I think The Berlin Wall coming down released the ones currently floating around. I know the three I owned had escaped from the cellar in an old building there.

If the vendor roll is there, but the reset mechanism and/or holders for the mint rolls are missing, I'd probably manufacture those and put the vendor into commission.
If the original metal reels aren't present I'd make up some paper ones.
The castings I'd have dipped and polished
The handle and hub the same, perhaps plated if good enough.
Strip the oak sides and varnish, they should have a thin gold stripe an inch or so in from the edge in an Art Deco style, straight lines and angles no curves.
A nut & bolt strip down on the mech, get the rust off, wire brush the base plate.

Paint the castings as per the pictures, remantle it ...job's a good un.
I did mine over a couple of months or so, but the platers were quick and local and it was a hot Summer, ideal for sitting in the garden with small paint brushes.

... just spotted the jack pot is there (Doh!) it might need stripping down though.

Thank you Badpenny for all your input. I guess I have to take my time for this one. Would be nice to find the missing parts somewhere though. :HaHa:

Best thing to do is find someone who has same machine with parts to help take close up of bits missing.....unlikely to find someone with buckets of spares for these, you could try German ebay, occasionally these turn up there, but rarely spares.....maybe there is a German collectors site that could help

It's always likely mastereddy69 that if your machine hasn't got a vendor yet cast plates over the window, there's every likelihood it came from the factory that way.

The same could apply with the skill linkages. You may be trying to restore it to something it never was.
We sometimes get posts on here asking what the authentic colours were for bandits.
In the 60s I remember my Uncle taking delivery of new Sega bandits in primer. They were cheaper and many establishments wanted to paint them in their own club colours anyway.

It has no cast plates over the windows so I think it should have had one.

I came across this one on ebay https://www.ebay.de/itm/Heros-Mills-ein ... Swf5BbGS-k

but to buy it only for the vendor????

I asked you if the vendor roll is there, because the knob on the right must be attached to something.

Sorry badpenny I misunderstood. Yes, the knob is there but, when I take the front casting off, there is no vendor. The knob goes from one side to the other, but nothing attached to it.

That's a blighter, if the roll dispenser had been intact it wouldn't have taken much to get that working.

Does anyone know what that little glass window is on the top left of the front of the machine?

Window for the coin denominator? It's a bit small but looks like one. BP will know.

I haven't got a clue.
Every Tura Bell I've owned had it, but it lines up with nothing on the inside.

My only suggestion is they used the same castings for the other bandit they made (can't think of its name, but it's also in Dieter's book) it had no jack pot and the bottom half was all vendor. In fact if you look carefully at The Tura you'll see where the middle is cut out by hand so the jack pot has space to fit.
Anyhow what I was going to say before I wandered off for a moment, perhaps the other machine had a coin view window that lined up. Just not on the Tura Bell.

I have just noticed that the well known dealer in Belgium Werner Paredis has a picture of a trailer load of parts and machines he bought a while back on his Facebook page and is loaded with Turas......maybe worth pinging him an email.....he is on the site as Coinopbelgium, but is not a contributor sadly .... :#:
