Boland Black Beauty, Screen Stars, Brooklands, White City...

American, British, French or German? We want to know about it.

Hello all
Well I have finally got part way to owning a Bolands Single reel White City in the form of the case, but I am on the lookout for a suitable mech for it? hoping someone out there may have a mech as the cases tented to dissolve in a cloud of worm dust :)
Best regards from the Badlands of the Herts/Essex border:)
Mark.

Guilt complex

Post by roger »

Topic merged- Site Admin.

Back in the 1970s, john t peterson was grabbing up all the English imported coin-ops on the west coast of America.
I was doing the same thing on the east coast.
I had no idea what I was buying except I found they were lots of fun and I cherry picked what I considered to be the most desirable.
One of the machines I acquired was a "Movie Star" slot... I had never seen a comparable machine made in the U.S.A.

Fast forward to 2005 and slot machines had started to command high prices. I sold my Movie slot to someone in Hollywood California for a tad over $2000.00. (my cost $40.00)... not bad for a "little old country boy".

Recently, I checked the internet and find that my machine was likely made by BOLAND (England).
I do remember that my machine had a wooden case.
I am unable to find a Boland movie star slot with a wooden case in the 1970s time frame.

Your thoughts ???? roger :tarah:..................GUILT COMPLEX ??? Yeaaa

If a short straight bandit handle is a 'dagger handle', what is the style called as depicted in the above 'film stars' bandit?....a nearly straight but kinky one? [ a serious question actually]

With Boland I would suspect "a cheap one" or "the first one that came to hand" or perhaps "a large water pipe stopcock handle I bought 50 of cheap from a bloke at the water board".

A 30 year old parts catalogue I have calls the pressed steel versions "Gooseneck handle" and the later cast dagger style "Black Cherry handle - Sword type" .

Mr. P indicated that my Movie Star slot had one hefty markup from my cost of $40 to my selling price $ 2000.00.
Yes indeed, by my calculations, that's a little over a 10 percent profit.

And yes, the machine marked "Your Favorites" is likely my machine or one very similar. roger :tarah:

This one, sold in California last year as a, "Mills Prototype", is up again at Donley Auctions on the 19th with an estimate of $1,400 - $3,700. Sounds ambitious to me. It's now catalogued as a "Mills 50 Cent Film Stars Slot Machine"...
