I like the way you say you just knocked it up. That looks like a lot of work and, at first sight, it could easily pass for an early wall machine. Is 'Tom' the name of a machine you copied? The style reminds me a little of Handan-Ni's Bull Dog of 1919. I've never actually seen one of these - the picture is from page 39 of Arcadia Slot Machines of Europe & America.

I've only seen a couple of exterior images of it, but it's evidently a primitive ancestor of the Circle Skill. It can't be very complex inside - the round knob attached to a pulley linked by a belt to another pulley on the pinned wheel, and a coin return mechanism, triggered when a large ball drops into the centre hole behind the bulldog shield. The question is how the ball is released and wound back up to the top. I'm guessing there's some sort of carousel arrangement around the perimeter on the other side of the wheel.
