Hi all,
I'm new on here. I make and restore all sorts.
This model works on old penny and runs on 12v.
Hope you like it. Comments welcome.

Hi Thunder welcome to the forum ,
I think you have done a good job with your Laughing Sailor. I have made a few machines over the years and I know how much work you have to put in to make them work What else have you done or got planned??

Very clever - he works well. Looks like he's had a harder life than the more rotund Modern Enterprises sailor. Prettier cabinet too!

Now THAT'S the Navy I was in; two pints of grog and three sheets to the wind. Love the cabriole legs on the case. A very stylish job, mate. Well done indeed!

Made this Marathon Cycle case about a year ago. Sorry the pictures aren't the best quality .
A singing Marilyn Monroe doll is in the design stages at present. Standing on a grate with a fan blowing up her dress - bit of a strange one possibly, but I'm sure I'm mad.

How did you make the head of the sailor and how did you get the movement on the sailor? Just curious.

Met a nice chap called David Archer from South Australia many years ago who makes his own automata. Everything is hand-made. I can't find the link, sorry, but I recall it's something like archersarcadia. Some super pieces... Worth a look if you're interested.

Some incredible stuff on there Thunder .....lots of interesting links too. Some of the faces on the automata are more scary than a laughing sailor!

The plan was make them and sell them, so I have the parts to make more. Took 80 odd hours and there's about £250 in electronics, metal, wood etc. This does not include the case, which is a one-off, made of odd bits I had lying around. It's a perspex case.
The sailor is approx half size of normal; movement has cams, like original. His eyes move and he has a tongue. It runs on 12v, so no shocks.
He looks good, only thing is skin colour and face shading needs work I think but, as a first attempt, I was quite happy, so I guess it's what's it worth to you Tempt me.

I like your version with the beard best, would like to see pics of your mechanism.
He also looks like Roger Whittaker about to sing 'The Last Farewell' with his microphone !
