Ripplers: repro & real

The picture I posted was of an original Rippler from the Bryans museum. The Photo on Melyvn's site acredited to P. Barson is also an original. The repros appear to be very good, but I think that it is hard to fake 70 years of use, and they do look new. All adds to the fun. I am always willing to admit that I don`t know everything, and often make mistakes.
We have all had auction fever by the way! No one likes to admit it though. But we have all driven home feeling sick and a little worried about how to explain the latest find.

Tree Frog, I think I'm right in saying that all Bryans machines were numbered, certainly all originals I have seen and owned have the case stamped and almost always, some part of the castings - with the same matching number, see photos. Does your Rippler case have a number? If so, then possibly an original - OK, I know a number can be added but if no number, combined with what you have already said, then probably a repro.

Over the years, the continued appearance of repro Ripplers has gone by unnoticed, but I saw another one sold today at the same place (Manders Auctions) I bought my Fruit Bowl for just under £400, but what is odd is three other versions sold at the same auction house since 2019, the previous in February for around £600... They are all different and seems so odd, so many appear in the same location. Are these still being made?

It's odd, as you say. Presumably some are just being passed around, but there do seem to be a lot of them.

I bought one a number of years ago from Reeman Dansie and sold on at a loss at Coventry, but that is the next nearest auction, again all different.....I am surprised how much people still bid to be honest, not the most thrilling game

Once bought a reproduction one on eBay but did not like the gameplay (you could set the paddles at a certain angle and get the high score centre column every time).
So sold it on at a Coventry auction and doubled my money!
It all depends on the day at auctions.

...apart from the handle, which may have spent some time opening and closing a car window!

Would agree an original, most repro Ripplers (if not all) do not have the thin timber moulding at the glass/timber frame junctions - see pic, yours has this detail.
