hello

unless its a particularly rare model, i would think you would be able
to source same machine/model/condition in UK reasonably easily
without the hassle

are you looking at any particular model, maybe some members here
have one available, or they can point you in right direction at least....

I would double your £1500 cost for a bandit. In my opinion, unless either very cheap or rare, as Aristomatic stays buy here. Typically bandits are cheaper here anyway....

A lovely very original War Eagle finished in auction today as I went to view at the weekend, original scroll work on side, reel stops and tin reel strips. Never seen one so all there (except back door missing) Finished for £580 in Knutsford

I am at the preview in Vegas. Its usually a very well attended auction and generally speaking prices are medium to high compared to the UK with a few exceptions. If you're buying something like a QT, great carry it home in hand luggage. Shipping is not cheap, I hire space in a private shipping container but I have to wait approx 4 months door to door.
VCA ( Morphys now) are very helpful and friendly and provide an excellent service. The average age of slot collectors over there attending is high some pushing zimmers around , I feel like a spring chicken !
UK Customs is the biggest issue unless you have suitable arrangement in place as otherwise they appear to just think of a number to charge for Import Duty

Do you mean you were at the end of my street and never popped in to say hello,,,weirdo,

Yep a really nice original machine
Mech was ceased tho
And as you say no back door
I was the under bidder,,I fickin hate internet bidding
I think it's for the laziest people about ,,it's ruining all the fun of getting up
Getting out there and finding a bit of treasure for yourself,
I also was the under bidder on the 7 gargoyles from the cavern club
They were nice ,,but again some lazy mucker sitting there tapping his computer,
I hope they get smashed in transit, :dammit: !!SUICIDAL!!

Apologies Bob, I forgot to mention I was that "lazy ****" sitting on my laptop.....problem was I could not make the auction today. Also on Sunday when I viewed I had a big trip of 700 mile trip to complete with 6 pick-ups from Ipswich to Leicester to Knutford to Somerset to Bath to South London....as you have always said you have to put the miles in. Even picked up another War Eagle below in a car park somewhere in Berkshire......

The Knutsford machine is nice and I have spare back doors and the mech was ok, just needed fettling as the lack of back door meant it was full of years of dust and crap. As you say Aristo, I thought this would go more towards the grand

Am only pulling your leg tom
I know were you live and it's 5 plus hours from me ,,
And yep you have to do the miles to find the stuff but,,
I just might of been able to sell you something !!ESCAPE!!

Although I was the under bidder
The winner may have went up to a grand
And I am not that fussy on bandits
I didn't see the damage on bonnet but looked like
It folded on the back
Maybe wrong here tho I didn't look at it too much,,
I was more annoyed at the gargoyles !!RANT!!

Thanks for the responses. There's so many to choose from all in one place and no doubt my preferences would change if I were there. I was looking at a Mills cowboy High Top - the one with the horse shoe panel, no jackpot, but I also have seen others which I like. It's great if you can take home a carry on could well be a smaller machine or the Baker kicker & catcher trade stimulator.
So if I bought a machine for £1500 would I get it to my front door for an additional £300 or £600, or is it more? How many on this forum have been to this auction and how many go nowadays?

Hi Junior
I've never been but i would love to go.
I may go in next couple of years if funds permit?
I have had stuff shipped over from the US by fed Ex and Craters& freighters for the larger stuff that wont go in a fed Ex Box!.
As others have pointed out on here, its only really worth the extra expense if the items are quite valuable or you really MUST have it, no matter what the cost!
I reckon any typical Bandit at around $2000 US is going to work out about £2000 once you factor in all the associated shipping costs and import Duty.
If you are willing to really splash out and spend $5 - $10,000 US on a machine it may have some historical interest or be quite rare and would qualify for VAT @ a reduced rate of only 5% of purchase price!
You would need to look up the correct tariff codes on the HMRC website.
If, like me, you like Bandits, then there is a greater range avalaible in the US. I agree that they are more expensive in the US but they tend to have had an Easier life since they wouldn't have been used after 1951 unless they were operated in Nevada Casinos.
Its all down to how fussy you are and how deep are your pockets.

I don't even bother checking eBay USA because if the chatter on the Stateside forums is to be believed there's quite an industry in forgeries and fakes.
If the experts are getting confuddled by what they're looking at, what chance would I stand?

Yes I believe everything from a war eagle to a rol a top has been re manufactured, but most seasoned collectors know what they looking at!
It is very hard to fake Patina' so for that reason I stay away from over restored stuff.
The only people who get caught out are probably the new guy who just wants the one machine for his man cave.
They don't care if its fake, they just want it to look nice.
As with any antiques its buyer beware and do your research........
