Does anybody ever buy and sell?
Always fancied a nice fruity with a Jackpot on, the type you can see through the glass.
Does anyone ever sell from their collection?

Surely most of the machines in the auctions come from collections. I usually stick my spares machines in when I get bored with them or can't find the space to put them.

Does any one know what the duty is on bringing in a Machine in from the USA
Re: Does anybody ever buy and sell?
I thought "how hard can this be?" Wow, what a minefield. Don't take this as gospel, but this was the closest I could find.
(Remember that 20% VAT is added to the sum of what you paid for the machine, plus shipping, plus duty (if any) and there is probably also going to be a handling fee charged by HMRC).

Re: Does anybody ever buy and sell?
Thank you, so looks like no duty, just Vat on invoice price (Nudge Nudge) and shipping.
Re: Does anybody ever buy and sell?
You would be well advised to do your own research before committing to importing any machines. Shipping firms might be a good place to look for guidance.

Re: Does anybody ever buy and sell?
There is no VAT on secondhand goods, only the profit of the resale (example, if I buy a secondhand watch for £10 and sell it to you for £15, VAT is due on the £5 profit. This is called the Gov VAT margin scheme) BUT in this case that might depend where the machine originally came from. If an allwin was sold to a USA buyer 5 years ago for £500 and you bought it back for £400, no VAT; if you paid £600 you owe VAT on £100. I'm just not sure about a machine that is entering the UK for the first time. Email the guy mentioned below and he WILL tell you the full score.
I import a lot of goods and by far the best way is to go to a shipper that handles the shipping, calculates all the extras including delivery to your door, any VAT, any Duty, plus costs if the invoice is not FOB, (they also do insurance if you want it.) They then deal with all the paperwork and Gov duty and give you one invoice for the lot just before it arrives.
One of the best (and award winning) shipping companies is Shippo email Chris Veale at this address cDOTveal[AT]shippoDOTcoDOTuk and say Paul Coppin suggested he might be able to help. I'm just not sure they handle anything that small but I think they might.

Re: Does anybody ever buy and sell?
In regards to import duty from the States, my first machine I bought off eBay and had shipped to the UK cost me 15 of 17.5 percent duty on top of the invoice figure. Was just over £300 for a 3000 dollar machine. Next machine I bought from the Nation's Attic only cost me 5% duty because a code was used on the invoice for my purchase. So I learned the hard way about import duty. I also believe that any item (antique) which you can prove is over 100 years old can be imported duty free. Nice if you collect the early machines........
Every year more collectors join the ranks looking for nice machines to add to their collections. That includes me.

I have had mixed results. I use to buy gold from the US many decades ago of which bullion is tax and duty free - you just needed to put the appropriate code on the form. Problem is, most sellers will not do what you ask and add codes as they are concerned about fraud etc.
On machines I have had mixed results with a Bryans Elevenses costing no duty. The Bryans machine was posted via US parcel service.
