Auction searches

Post by geofflove »

So, as a relative newbie I don’t know if this is a sensitive subject or not but....

Generally which are the best sites/apps which allow you to search/set alerts for auctions for up and coming sales? I’ve come across thesaleroom.com and barnebys but don’t know if these are best or if there are others? Obviously things have been quiet with lockdown but I would like to get involved in a few auctions having never been for many years.

Thanks

The CALENDAR section on here would be a good starting place.
I went to my first slot-machine auction earlier this week. If you are more familiar with used-car auctions, you might need to take a little light reading with you to pass the time.
Tolstoy, for instance.

At least you went home with something !THUMBS! The auctioneer was very slow, normally whiz through at 100 lots per hour, not 50.

Hi brigham.

Yes I think that was the auction in Gateshead? I’m in Newcastle! I was thinking of going but everything on offer was a bit on the large size for me to find a space for!

Of course people like to think they are the only ones who know other sites where they exist and may not want to share. Barnebys I thought picked up from multiple sources, but seems to be pretty useless of late...

A few years ago I discovered a novel crowdsourced app which collects data from all the little village hall sales around the country. Members send catalogue details (and occasionally photos) from their phones and the app compiles it all into a searchable database. Because they're not listed by the saleroom.com etc., you can get some fantastic bargains. Ninety percent of my purchases are made this way.

Nursey,

When Mr PennyMachines takes his nap this afternoon, would you please pinch his iPhone for a few minutes? We just want to take a look at his apps.

Thank you.

That has to be the funniest post you've ever created Dave.

I wondered if the app had been 'locked down' in the current climate due to the number of shielding people at the village halls. :HaHa:

It is a brilliant service, but I could not get it to work from my iPad and seems to only work from windows or Android, so a little annoying from my phone. As with Mr PM, I must have got about 25 machines this year alone through this service.....there is a subscription though, so the £375 per year is a bit pricey, but in the long run worth every penny !!THUMBSX2!!

I've added a new section to the Archive called (for want of a better word) Sourcing. It includes all the places I go hunting for slots (except the aforementioned app, which you all seem to know about anyway). !WINK!

Please feel free to add any I've missed.
