AAM refuse to refund subscriptions.
I have repeatedly attempted to get in touch with Steve Hunt, but have received no reply to the emails which I have been sending for some six months now..
I have enquired about a refund of my subscription, but have not and apparently will not receive one. If this changes, I will post the news here.
Essentially, Steve Hunt has shafted all of us.

AAM web site not working
AAM topic merged - Site Admin
I check Steve's web site on a regular basis as its still on my favourites been on tonight and it looks like the site has shut down. I can't say I'm surprised Steve is probably pi**ed off with the emails he's getting regards overpaid subscription fees. I think if there are any future AAM auctions I personally would not want to be lining Steve's pockets when I am still owed overpaid subs.
When i get the chance I'm going to visit his pier demanding free beer / sandwiches / whatever to the tune of over paid subs.

AMM is it the end?
I read somewhere on this site that the last magazine was February. I was beginning to think I'd been forgotten about. Pay x no. of pounds and have a auction catalogue sent. A letter recently tells me download off the internet as too busy and can't make no money out of the magazine. Do we get a refund then? Or maybe were all share holders in Steve's pier.
I realise this comment may ruffle some feathers but I must be saying what a lot of people think.

Re: AMM is it the end?
I have to reluctantly agree with you. Cannot help but think that subscribers frustration with lack of a magazine is going to also impact on the AAM auction...which I think must be a money maker. Entries were notably down on previous years and presumably the entry of the private collection (working models etc.) and the presence of the Bryan's Magic machines and Tick Tock really made the difference. Truthfully, the magazine was in an established set out format and didn't have too much in the way of editor articles generally, so it's hard to see why it couldn't have been published (if this is totally incorrect, then the publishers can't blame subscribers from trying to make their own judgement on what could and could not be done). It also makes one wistful for and appreciative of John Hanson's efforts with his mag...which unfortunately seemed to have been thwarted. As to being a shareholder in a pier...er, not thanks; me thinks that 100 year old cast iron set in the sea would not get most people excited (thought I admire the efforts of those that try!).

Re: AMM is it the end?
I agree. Although Steve has no doubt done sterling efforts in restoring the pier, the fact is that I paid £36 to receive 12 issues of AAM, and if AAM can't keep to their part of the bargain, then I want my money back.
Having just checked, my last issue is dated February 2004, so it seems unlikely that AAM will appear again.

Re: AMM is it the end?
Over a year now since last issue.
The order form is still online but I think we can safely conclude this is the end.
Website last updated 28/11/04.
Anyone get a refund or an apology?

Re: AMM is it the end?
Big question is, does anyone actually still send in subscriptions in response to the on line advert! Steve, when you read this, why not update your web page, or even respond here and just let people know what's happening....you know we care
Re: AMM is it the end?
Steve is leaving himself `open` and it could be said, he is taking any new money under false pretence. AAM WAS GREAT! If it is the end - OK,.I would settle for some back copies..STEVE GOOD LUCK WITH THE PIER.... but don`t forget the subscribers.
Re: AMM is it the end?
I'll watch it for a week, and if it doesn't re-appear I'll regretfully remove our links to it.
Re: AMM is it the end?
just starting to collect machines found the website aam ' i sent in a subscription last month ?? has it closed now ?? guess i will get the cheque sent back to me any day now
Re: AMM is it the end?
If you have read what's been said before on this string I think you'll have picked up the gist of where things stand (and figure that next month's issue is unlikely to be 'in the post'). I think all of us who have had outstanding subscriptions will be most interested to see if you get your cheque back...or more interested to see whether he has the cheek to cash it! That being said, the magazine is fondly missed..though this website does offer some solace.

I completely agree, and I too found the letter arrogant and offensive.
I am also not interested in the new format- here's a quote
"The intention is to produce a very basic advertising medium, similar to how the AAM first started, no time consuming glossy print or fancy articles, just a regular method to keep in touch and buy and sell their stuff"
Well, why would anyone pay £36 per year for that? If I just want to look at machines for sale, I can visit eBay for nothing. If I want to "keep in touch", I can do that here, far more effectively and for nothing.
Very much unimpressed.

I paid £36 to read articles about collecting and restoring slot machines, and about amusement park and fairground rides along with photographs etc.the writs in the post wrote:
To my mind, annoying as the two year 'hicup' has been, better the glimmer of a mag and auction calander than none at all.
I did not pay £36 to receive a photocopied list of the same hopelessly overvalued machines for sale every single month.
I feel that we have all been incredibly patient here. After about a year without the appearance of AAM, a post was made on this forum about the magazine's disappearance. Within two days, I had received a mailing from Steve Hunt, grumbling about "internet libel" and promising exciting new developments with the magazine soon.
One year on, nothing whatsoever has happened, but within days of someone else starting a thread, I have received by post another "jam tomorrow" mailing, the main purpose of which seems to be to advertise his forthcoming auction.
I have been saving for over a year now to add a £350 allwin to my very small collection, and getting my £36 back would mean a lot to me. To read that Steve Hunt spent over £1000 at a Christies auction when he has repeatedly ignored my emails asking for a refund simply adds insult to injury.
I would urge both buyers and sellers to boycott his auction.

To my mind, annoying as the two year 'hicup' has been, better the glimmer of a mag and auction calander than none at all..............
An interesting slant on things I feel.
When John Hamson folded his magazine following finding himself at the wrong end of someone spiking his live auctions, he immediately sent out cheques for the outstanding subscriptions. In fact he even paid for a year's subscription that had been won in a competition. That I believe is gentlemanly conduct and honouring one's committments.
My subscription to AAM either ended just before its demise or I may have been owed a copy or two I really don't know, however I had no intention of renewing as my owed copies in exchange for contributions were not honoured and the format no longer matched my interest.
As for the opening comment from a previous poster regarding "glimmers" & auctions calendars". If I do business with anyone who then gives me cause at anytime to think that self gain is more important to them, than, how others view them. I tend to distance myself.
Good reputations need constant maintenance and once muddied take a lot more to get clean than is often realised. This is an essential rule when in business or relying upon the support and goodwill of others.
I wish Steve well with his future enterprises.... as I would anyone, but will not be visiting, his pier or his auctions. Old sayings about chickens coming home to roost etc. spring to mind.
Hells teeth! I'm beginning to sound like my old dad now!

AAM Flyer
AAM topic merge - Site Admin
Received a flyer from the AAM today its seems a lot of subscriptions had ended before the magazine did (mine had not). No mention of internet liable in this one and Steve has a lot of catering equipment for sale.
Anyone care to comment?
