Any software professionals?

Enter the Honourable Judge's favourite tavern for a dram of Tittle Tattle. There's an ancient bandit in the corner, but I forget his name...

Any software professionals?

Post by badpenny »

Someone I know who works in I.T. as a software engineer project manager for one of the world's largest outsourcers tells me the NatWest and RBS current computer problem is not as described by their CEO.

They claim an upgrade failed, that's all.
He says a simple issue like upgrading even an email server requires weeks of test running with so many contingency plans in place that the moment a glitch presents itself a return to previous version is automatically triggered. Can you begin to imagine the protocol for a Banking System?
He claims his organisation has been approached for advice and from the evidence presented it clearly shows there was no recent update but they have been hacked into by a small group based in India.
The damage both I.T. wise and funds is immense.

Bankers lying to us? Who'd have thought?
So any other professionals out there who have their doubts about the bank's explanation or is my mate wide of the mark?
