Of all these, the machines that I am least impressed by, in terms of quality, is Bryans, and I don't mean the mechanicals, but the quality of the build of the cases... I am sure this will ruffle a few feathers out there, but these were really cheaply made.... !!ESCAPE!!

I think you need to make a stronger case than that treefrog.

Ah yes, now the hinges are good,

I suspect the worst of them are the plyboard type cases and veneers used on a variety of machines. For example how often do you see a Bryans Bullion without some case damage. On most Allwins this was only used to the rear of a machine where wear and looks were less of an issue. The case itself reminds me of a company who made fruit boxes with the same type of fixings.... Now I appreciate this will obviously get a few going, but it is true. I know they are smaller than most other allwins, but just the weight of a Bryans compared to others indicates the quality of the build materials. !SOFA!

Interesting that you single out Bullion as I know of a few for sale over the years that have had faithfully reproduced new cases.
Whereas my own experience of de-laminating in Bullions has always been the front board with the mechanism attached.

Plywood can only go one way, even Marine and Exterior Ply has an urgent ambition to resort back to its constituent elements within minutes of being manufactured.

I recommend using single ply like you're left with after you remove the bark off a tree.

However of course, what manufacturer would use expensive materials to create a product that won't need replacing?
Even the latest Bryans (Bryan's ... Bryans') machines are getting to 60 years old so they haven't done badly.

If I were to criticise any element of Bryans machines it would be the ball release on the Allwins.
Sometimes the action is so quick the ball isn't released.
All it needs is a nail to stop the coin lever from returning so high. That way the ball is only partially captured and not totally covered by the rod.

Warning to punsters: Any more cases of frivolous or unhinged replies and I may be forced to lock this weighty topic and set up a closed cabinet meeting to discuss it further.

Quite right Mr PM, we don't want this to go off track or spiral out of control, to coin a phrase. I think people are just playing to the gallery. !!ESCAPE!!

Calm down everyone.
I think Mr P merely Wonders where this will end.

All we want is an All Win situation.

Good to hear the Pennymachines Police are moderating this otherwise the Case would have to be investigated by Special Branch!

I have to admit I had a flicker at bandits and still enjoying them, but have myself been spiralling towards the Wonders of Allwins......Certainly hooked by the hammer and possibly is linked to my poor back.

Bryans are great, just jealous I have not been able to afford decent ones, especially top of my list a "Rockets" machine, one day I will find one at a boot fair SkEpTiCaL

Don't bother looking for a pun in this one, there aren't any.

I wanted to point out that in a few days this thread will be 7 years old. I've not checked but this could well be our longest running topic.

Maybe in the next 7 years someone might answer the original question???
"but no one has identified the manufacturer. Can anyone help with the manufacturer"

It's the journey that's enjoyable ......... not the arrival.

Which is what an old person says when they don't know the answer.

W O T ???

Post by scottie »

Topic copied and merged - site admin.

Hello everyone,
Just got a lead on two machines and wanted to know if anyone had any comments (good or bad) before I part with the cash.
I do have the usual questions... Who made them? What year would they be?
W O T ????

Thanks,
scottie.

The second machine has a Philip Shefras Ltd badge with address at Hollybush Place, Bethnal Green Road, London E2. Not sure when he was operating though?
