Interesting items in upcoming auction...
Re: Interesting items in upcoming auction....
Yes, that would be lovely. Grateful if you could buy me some machines too........makes me wonder if what you're suggesting is we also list auctions such as the one that started this thread?
Call me picky but I don't expect too much....
Re: Interesting items in upcoming auction....
Point taken Mr BP. When I have a spare 3 or 4 hours I do the searches for "slot" etc. and end up back where I started, then I end up falling asleep.....

Re: Interesting items in upcoming auction....
I did spot these before they were listed here and was looking forward to underbidding them, but you have saved me a trip to Lincolnshire to view these and dream about owning them. It's a shame they will probably leave these shores now.
The auctioneers are pretty useless with their estimates and there would have been a lot of disappointed punters. I also requested pics of the 3 lots and they sent me 4 pics of the same machine

I have been taking a good look at these
And there seems to be
A good lot of parts missing
If there not inside,,
These could actually end up as ornaments
Am treading carefully on these

Re: Interesting items in upcoming auction....
I remember this, it was quite special, an ex-casino machine on a rare 50c and a sweepstake model with light-up panels, all complete and original - quite cheap I thought.Bandito wrote:Remember a few years ago a Jennings Club Chief in a console came up for sale at auction with, I believe, an estimate of £400? I went to that auction. As soon as that lot came up for offer, the auctioneer said there had been a lot of interest in the item and had 4 live phone bidders waiting to get the bidding started. The opening bid was £800 and quickly went to about £1350 and sold. I did not get a chance to even raise my card and get a bid in! It was not worth the £1350 someone paid for it in my opinion
Re: Interesting items in upcoming auction....
Yes, it was on the old large 50p's and was, if I recall, from a casino in Gibraltar. Needed a lot doing to it to restore it. What I liked about it was the heptagon shaped coin entry for those 7 sided coins! First time I had seen one on a Jennings.

Re: Interesting items in upcoming auction....
It was originally a 50 cent machine being operated on old penny in Gibraltar, then an operator had adapted it to operate on the old 50p by soldering the shape of the coin, slightly bigger of course, into the old penny
entry as they are a similar size. Simple to take off, the slides hadn't been touched, they just messed with the award card.

Typical, pm you even beat me to the results.
I reckon only the Handani will be staying in the UK.
I managed a few bids.

The Results ...........
The Crane, motor missing, also claw and chains (I think) inside looked to have been more than a mouse nest more of a rodent town.
£1700
Big Six. placed against wall, not possible to see inside, handle in office.
£5200
Handan Ni
Massive game, looked an easy restoration
£3200 .... sold in the room
Work out the total prices by adding commission 15% (I think) plus VAT, plus an internet premium if applicable.
I went over this morning first thing then came home and watched on laptop.
Congrats to the new owners who had slacker purse strings than I.

Re: Interesting items in upcoming auction....
Nice pictures, BP - much better than the saleroom provided.
The full patent for the Handan-Ni Seven Arches (GB191328400) is in the Archive
The unique feature of the game seems to be that you roll the tilted baize playfield laterally (or perhaps, a plate on top of it) in order to steer the balls towards the arches, whereupon an indicator flips up, the ball returns and that arch becomes a lose position. You have to make all the arches to get your penny back (number of balls determined by operator).

Looking forward to picking up the Big Six at the weekend..............I wish
Funny I put prices against each of these and the Bix Six is pretty much where I had guessed. Wonder if they will stay in the UK

Re: Interesting items in upcoming auction....
I got chatty with a member of staff and he intimated that they stumbled upon them almost by accident. The boss had gone out to do a house clearance and the old store shed out the back was in such bad condition it was almost overlooked, guess what was inside?
He also told me they were staggered by the interest and phones were booked from overseas. I went along as I suspect it was the only chance I'd get to fondle a Big Six.
I was under in my guess on the Handan Ni, the other two I wasn't far out.
You're about right Mr. P. on your understanding of how it worked. The playfield does move laterally, it works like the destination blind on an old bus.
There is only one ball, and if goes down the same hole twice you lose and the game stops.
So is there anyone out there who has something to tell us? ........ jingle? Daveslot? how about you Mr.P?
Did anyone else from the forum attend? The auctioneer kept saying "It's ok I shall get to you when we've exhausted the Internet and telephones" Which suggests serious collectors were present, also we know The Handan Ni was sold in the room.

Re: Interesting items in upcoming auction....
Interesting to see that the "billiards" game was actually "7 Arches," pictures shown in Costa's book, page 132. His has a different stand and nameplate, of course.
Thanks for the good reporting, Mr. BP.

But presumably, as the patent suggests, more could be added?badpenny wrote:There is only one ball, and if goes down the same hole twice you lose and the game stops.
I sir? Not I sir!badpenny wrote:So is there anyone out there who has something to tell us? ........ how about you Mr.P?
They were all sold in the room I believe, but I don't know to whom, and if another forum member does, I don't think they should out the buyer in this forum (even by pen name)...badpenny wrote:Did anyone else from the forum attend? ...The Handan Ni was sold in the room.

Re: Interesting items in upcoming auction....
I understood the winning bidders' numbers for the first two were internet.
As for outing anyone, believe you me if I'd been lucky enough to be one of the new owners then believe me, you'd all be hearing about it.
Like the joke about the guy in the confession box who tells the priest he's been sleeping with teenage blond twins . The priest tells him that because he's not catholic he doesn't have to tell him. He replies I'm telling everyone!
I guess you can have as many balls inserted as you like.

Re: Interesting items in upcoming auction....
Looks like the crane actually ended up at £1600......
Would love to have heard the awe's from the room when the Big Six hit 5k... Me thinks this machine was worth its final price, especially as the handle was there.... Someone else told me they believed the mechanism looked complete... Would be nice to know if it was a conversion to British penny. Looking at the coin entry this may be the case.
