Bradley Crusader

Post by willborl »

Hi
The Bradley Crusader that I have has never worked since I bought it. (at the Nic Costa sale in 2006)
You put a coin in and nothing happens when you turn the handle to release a ball. I am not sure fully how it works and why it isn't working :-?. I think there may not be enough balls in the tube, meaning when you turn the handle the balls go up but not far enough to go out of the tube and into the playfield. If not that I have no clue!
Could someone give me some help and tell me how it works and how many balls are meant to be in it. (I know that's a real pain to get all the balls out of the tube but would be a great help!!)
Also any pictures of the mech would be helpful to see if it is complete.

Thanks a lot.

Here's a picture of the mech. As Dave says, bung a few more balls in and see what happens. There should be at least five 'free' balls in order to effect the 6 payout.

Hi JC. Thanks for the pic and the advice.
A couple of things though. What do you mean by "free" balls?
Also what is the metal plate in the top right hand corner (looks like a payout plate?)
Thanks Daveslot as well
I will try put a few more balls in it.

By 'free' I meant the number of balls other than those in the tube i.e. the number available to play. I've no idea how many there should be, but my machine has six. As I said, you need at least five.
Yes, the plate at top right is a payout slide. My machine has two slides, one the thickness of a penny for 1 2 3 payout and the other the thickness of two pennies for 2 4 6 payout. I don't know if this was standard - I suspect in the case of my machine, a tight fisted operator at some time in the past knicked the thinner slide from an allwin so he could halve the machine's payouts (although it's damn near impossible to win the 4 and 6 anyway).
Let us know how you get on.

Incidentally, I've written a piece on the Crusader for the Feb. issue of MMM, which should go to print later this week.

Any chance we could have a picture of the front of the machine just out of interest?

Just a quick update.
I have got all of the balls out of the machine and there are 11 in there :-?
They only half fill the tube so I think I'll just put more balls in there??

Looks like you've found the problem then - you'll need a lot more than 11.
By the way, the correct ball size is 9/16"

Could anyone please help me get hold on the accurate measurements and weight ? If possible; in metric measures.

Just googled the Crusader. Cracking machine.

I have a Bradley Super Challenger. Is it me, or are these machines named after tanks?

I agree lovely machine. By the way, these tanks were made from WWII on, whereas the slots are from the '20s/'30s.... Maybe the tank manufacturers stole the name from Bradley...

Rarely see these come up. There was one at auction on ebay a while back, but had woodworm damage. Never seen another in 5 years.
