How to strip and clean the clock
How to strip and clean the clock
I have stripped my Sega mech and cleaned it all but cannot really get into the clock to give it a good old scrub and it needs it as it's not working too good.
I have had a look around and can't find any info on how to strip it, especially the pin that's going through the top lever.
Any info would be great

Re: how to strip and clean the clock ?
Usually a good dunk in diesel will saturate the muck enough so an old toothbrush (preferably your partner's) can remove it.
If the clock is jumping in its action, try cleaning and then lubricating the pawls of the ratchets.
Light oil the bearings and usually that's all you need to do.
I have had one years ago that had too much wear and I had to dismantle it to get new spindles and pawls in place.
To be honest by the time the bits came from Americaland and I'd paid for it all I'd have been better off just buying another old one from an auction.
I advise that you take oodles of photos from every angle before separating the plates.

I can't separate the plates as there is a pin going through the shaft stopping them. Does this need to be drilled out?

Sussed it by accident, when I picked it up and it fell to pieces.

Brilliant ..... Well done!
Please do a quick "How I did it..." and those photos and add it to the link Mr P just showed us.
Include any issues and problems you came across/solved, plus any sprays, unctions or patent medicines you employed.

Re: How to strip and clean the clock?
its already in the new tips and tricks category
best way is to remove the 3 screws on the top and instead of trying to pull the top off turn it upside down and very carefully lift the bottom plate off this should leave all the wheels in position to give you a chance to take a photo, then take all the cogs off and clean thoroughly, i cleaned them in a petrol/paraffin mix which works great (if you don't smoke)
reassemble with lube of your choice, i chose a little clear silicon grease.
