My latest project, a 1d and 1/2d stamp vending machine with built in post box. These would have been around in the 1940s in your local post office. They also had an advertising board placed on the top.

Not a collector of stamp related items, but do have a double vendor in a wooden cabinet. Like the looks of the postal unit in one and am sure I have similar items sold as hotel items and guess they could have been sited in varied locations. Would be good to see the front.

Very informative site mr PM and will have to work out which one mine fits with.

Oooooohhh, it's Irish, from county Cork, which I know well (my mother is from Cork and I spent some of my childhood there as we had a farm). Might also explain the letters being painted green as from memory post boxes in Ireland are that colour.

Very nice !!THUMBSX2!!

Three collections per day? Crikey!

Very nice piece of history, though. Just googled the Ballyhooly Post Office and, although now closed, the building still exists. Hard to see where they would have had room for this vending machine!

New addition to the collection, a working late 1960s G1 type stamp vending machine.

The G1 version took over from the stamp vender that only delivered one stamp at a time.

On inserting a 1/-, you got 5 stamps (2D 2D 3D 1D and 4D)

The stamp coil was designed that even if the machine malfunctioned, which ever stamp it started with, the 5 stamps produced by the machine would total 12d or 1/-.

I was sent these pictures of a wooden stamp vending machine yesterday. The owner intends to sell the item and will let us know when it is available on ebay or elsewhere.

I paid £100 for mine and was in a better condition, £500 is way too much considering there's no stamps with it.

Really?? I thought £500 wasn't a bad opening and perhaps closing price.
