Did this shooter do what it appears to do

Just saw this 1939 Bennet shooter on a web page and wondered if it did what it seems to do, advertised as a gum ball vendor and looking at the size of the target it looks like it shot gum balls at the target and you won them as a prize if they went through the hole,is that possible nice idea if it was

Hi, an American cent goes into a slot in the gun and you pull the hammer back and try to shot the cent through the hole. This then will release a gum ball in the side cup. I have a similar one and it is great fun.

Oppps my mistake, should have studied the pic a bit closer. You are right the coin releases a gum ball which you shoot at the target. Bit odd though, the gum ball must get a bit battle warn with continual shootings, who would want it after that?
