It's time I put my money where my mouth is, and bought a Bryan's Clock.
There's one available in Birmingham at £500 (in the usual place), but I'm not sure about the cabinet.
Also, it claims to be on old penny, but the 12 o'clock position pays 10.
Is it in the right price bracket?

I think £500 is towards the top end, but Clock prices are all over the place, ranging from around £200 and occasionally topping £600.
As a fellow Brummy I'm intrigued to know where the 'usual place is'. Birmingham Antiques Centre? :!?!:

I'm from Stockton-on Tees; it's the clock that's in Birmingham!
It's on eBay; I'm on a few different forums, and some don't allow mention of outside sales sites.
I'd like a good, clean example; I've got too many other projects on to start something else as well.

It's on eBay
Aha! !DOH!
The 10 coin payout is odd. Does the vendor say it's on old penny?
I imagine the Formica could be stripped and case refinished - but it's work. Might be better to leave as is. :!?!:

Might be better to wait for a good one, esp. if £500 is tops.

Also note the lack of jackpot, or it is covered over with the Formica.

Lots of clocks come up for sale like at the elephant and you can get a good one for 350. A beauty and I would say one of best I have seen sold there in June for 250 smackers below, although jackpot was hidden it was there and the best original cabinet I have seen, apparently locked in an arcade storeroom for 45 years..... cheap cheap cheap.....

Because there are so many made, there are lots that come up, so don’t waste your time with eBay chancers, a nice one will come up.

Also there are two main types excluding the streamline case, there is a tall one and shorter. I have always preferred the shorter, looks better proportions to me, but down to taste....

I think every collector should own a clock, they are great, look good and sound fantastic.

Well, you learn something every day. I've been collecting for over 25 years and there's not a lot I haven't seen, heard of or even owned.......but I didn't know there was a 'tall' version - I've certainly never seen one.

I've had the tall one but it didn't have a cash door at the front.

I am sure we have discussed it on here before some years ago. There seem to have been more of the tall type coming up for sale at the Elephant over the last year than shorter oddly as I think the shorter is more common. None have cash doors at front that I have seen.

I think the Tall ones generally had the cash drawer at the back :

Naturally there were exceptions, the slimline cased ones for example :

www.melright.com/bryans shows a tall cabinet and offers an explanation as to why the rear cash box door was introduced.

...possibly to prevent the maintenance man having access to the cash box?
But the same could be achieved by only giving him the keys to the back.

Tall counter-top Clocks with a front cash door (as per the flyer above) are rarer for sure.

(Edited my last post to include the word 'door' so as to avoid confusion between box/compartment/drawer/sausage/spaceship).
I think Mr Wright seems to be unaware of the clocks that have cash accessible from the front as he says 'later models had a separate lockable cash compartment at the bottom of the machine, accessible from the rear'. If this hadn't been introduced and the maintenance man 'only had keys to the back' then he would have access to the cash. :burp:
