Aristocrat - a rough price?

Post by maestro66uk »

Hi all.
Happy new year to all members.

Well, I'm still very happy with my Aristocrat Olympic. No problems at all since I bought her, stripped her down and totally refurbished her 2 years ago.

The guy I bought the machine from has asked if I'd like to work on another machine he has. He wants me to take it and spend my time on it and bring it back to life. The problem is the machine is REALLY in a bad way. Totally rusted. It's gonna take a very long time and money to get this thing back to its original standard.

My question is, how much does an average condition fully working Aristocrat sell for these days? This is just to give me an idea of costs to see if it would be worthwhile refurbishing this other machine. I fear it may just be sold for parts.

It cost me £120 to have all chrome parts of mine re-chromed two years ago, so that's not an issue. I just need a rough price of what these machines are worth in average condition.

That's a good price for chrome. Would you be interested in sharing the chromer info? I would expect it to be about £300 plus easy.
An Aristocrat, I would say, is 500 very tops depending on model etc.

There are numerous Aristocrat sales recorded in the Arena, some very tidy looking ones in the £250 range. A couple of desirable Clubmasters sold for £500 and £600 at Coventry in November.

He mentions the machine, an Olympic, which is like a Arcadian. I have seen at Elephant the highest was 360, average good probably around 220 to 250 and needing work 50 to 150

I'm not a member of the "Arena" page, therefore I can't view anything.

This is the company in Leeds, West Yorkshire I used for the chrome plating.

Agbrigg chroming haha
Your keen mate I know why he is cheap now.
He destroyed loads of my parts and never even as much as an apology for hundreds of pounds worth of damage, he even tried to charge me for the pleasure, good luck to anyone who wants to use inexperienced chromers like Sean longbottom, don't say I never told you so !THUMBS!

But thanks for sharing

I didn't have any problems with his service. All work carried out perfectly, and fast turn around too. It was all done within 2 weeks.

I think he said his first machine was an Olympic, which he has already restored? This additional machine may be the same model or another? Regardless, you should just try to confirm any parts you are hoping to replate are not rusted through anywhere and that any rust is merely surface/superficial. At least then you're more likely to get a better finished result from wherever it's done.

I don't think it's gonna be viable to fully restore this machine. If the gentleman who owns it were to GIVE it to me, then it'd be worth my time restoring it for my pleasure and at my expense, but to restore it and try to sell it, to both be able to get some money from the sale would just not be worth it on my part. The machine is a FULL strip-down job, the cabinet and chrome is badly rusted (not rusted to holes) but heavily rusted. The reel mech is very dirty and rusty. The coin mech is just pure rust. It's gonna take a LONG TIME to fully restore this machine. (yes, it is an Aristocrat Olympic).

Guess you have answered your own question. You could paint instead, seen done before. Apart from the plastic belly, it is all steel, although later doors were made out a hard non-ferrous material as they were non magnetic.

Thanks for confirming the model.

If you decide not to proceed, post an image as it would be interesting to see it in its current state.

Thx

Well, here is the machine in question. How much is this bugger worth? Any ideas? It's not as bad as I remember seeing it last week, but the daylight had just about gone when I saw it.

The chap selling this machine also took me into his cellar to show me some Alwins in great but dusty condition, and a few other one armed bandits. I can add the photos of the other bandits here if you'd like to see them?

Always like to see pix..! I can only see some of the pictures on your post on this tablet? I'll try my PC and see if I can access them on that better.
